Oh Beddy that is such a basic error.

I discovered this that might help.

    http://blog.oxforddictionaries.com/2015/01/passed-past/

Of course I never make mistakes and no one on here ever points the mistakes I don't make out to me.

To be fair, my English and grammar has become more important since my daughter married a yank and i realised what a poor grasp of the Queen's English they have ;)

I heard our very own Ryan Bertrand using "We was..." instead of "We were..." in an interview once. This is quite common among professional football players I've now noticed.

I used to be good (or at least decent) at grammar, but I note that I now make common mistakes and have to edit them (if I notice). I think my subconscious is rebelling....it gave up on split infinitives years ago. I am good Fran on the surface, but my inner brain is on spliffs and saying sod it.

I still correct my errors if I see them. I also text with full punctuation.

Mine's terrible, but quite frankly when I'm posting on a forum I couldn't care less.

I'm more careful with 'proper' stuff.

I do this, winds up my daughter as well :)
Still, she is picking up so many 'Americanisms' that I need to remind her how the language is really spoken/written.

I gave up on split infinitives when Star Trek first started being shown. "To boldly go where no man has gone before.." used to annoy me but I was slowly immunised to it. Later on, Douglas Adams parodied it in The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy with "To boldly split infinitives...etc."

The one that still does annoy me is, as Godders has very subtly pointed out, "should of" instead of "should have". As Sarah Lancashire as the redoubtable Sgt. Cawood in Happy Valley points out to her errant grandson, "You can't 'of' something, 'of' isn't a verb!"

Oh dear Godders........You too have the knack of making errors in your hurry to reply..............It should read Should have....rather than should of.........<laugh>

I guess that is correct Fran.............Mind you in truth we all do it at some time. Usually when we are in a hurry and don't re-read what has been typed. Personally not sure what he thinks he saw..........<laugh>

    I have two pet hates.

The use of two, to and too.
    The use of apostrophes.

I don't know why people try to put an apostrophe in words like 80s or 70s and I can't see what is difficult about knowing that if I have two pounds that is too much to spend...
