Doesn't he play full back for Uruguay? Sure he was at full back in the last World cup and against us.

The Echo running a poll on would you play Caceres at Wembley. Surely that's unanswerable as we know nothing about him at this moment. We know his past success....enough to welcome him to the fold, but not his present abilities after such a long lay off. Puel has a week to look at him, but, unless he's a genius, it would be very harsh to replace either Maya or Jack in the starting line up.

So far 68% say play him.

Obviously doesn't realise that that would mean unemployed players couldn't find a job between transfer windows.

There's other tweets complaining that we are getting special treatment.

Don't get me wrong, I'm a big supporter of delayed gratification :emoticon-0103-cool: ...

but surely this ignores the rules of football fandom

I'm happy that he will probably play no part in the final, although Mrs S would like him to run up and down the touchline a few times with his sirt off  ...

But surely we then want to him to take the prem by storm and form a formidable defensive partnership with both Maya & Jack ...

after all without overblown dreams and unrealistic expectations how can we truly be Saints fans? :emoticon-0152-heart :emoticon-0153-broke

And the unwritten rule that every new player is far better than the ones we have....simply because we have never seen them play and the bitterness and disappointment hasn't kicked in. Another rule is that however you play in the first game will colour every fans view of you for ever and ever....for a defender that means you must bust a gut, dive in (just about legally) and send the opposition player into the hoardings. Perfect.

The first tweet I read is from a Chelsea fan. Obviously worried that Caceres is so good that they may not be such a certainty for the title anymore o_O

"Two days of extensive medicals and tough fitness tests have further demonstrated his desire and positive personality. I know Martin can’t wait to start playing again. We welcome him to St Mary’s, and his family into our family.”

    Love this from Les :emoticon-0152-heart

It must have been very hard for Martin to leave his family behind in Uruguay so soon after losing his brother so tragically. Nice thoughts from Les as you say.

Let's also not forget that Gastón Ramírez spoke highly of the club and recommended us. For no particular reason, that wasn't one of the things I expected him to say.

I'm surprised by your reaction. The club did all right by Gaston. OK, loaning him to clubs in parts of England other players cannot reach may have been harsh. It was true we didn't see the best of Gaston - or more worryingly perhaps we did. But the supporters stuck with him in the main. I would struggle to see why he should complain. I'm sure the club were as disappointed as the player that it all just didn't fit together.

Why should you be surprised.? I'm hardly putting the club's relationship with Gaston down in any way. It was just that he never really took down here [to my disappointment 'cause I really liked him] but I found it reasonable of him that he managed to separate dealings with managers and dealings with club, and passed his good opinion along to Caceres. Not a big deal. Just an observation.

I see HR got the gist of what I meant.
