:emoticon-0100-smile Sort of reminds me of a guy called Terry Ramsden in the '80s who made a fortune and then lost the lot (20 million quid or thereabouts?) on the horses. Think he owned a Mr Snugfit who finished fourth in the Grand National in 1986. He backed it heavily, luckiily e/w I believe, and then remarked after the race "needs 5-miles"!!

Swanny, I also remember a national horse called "Just So" that the trainer remarked it needed 5 miles on heavy. I backed it big e/w at 50's ante post and only just got beat by Freddie Starrs horse Minnihoma trained by a certain Martin Pipe and ridden by Richard Dunwoody if memory serves!

Ah yes, Mick, I remember that National. What part of the world have you been sailing in lately? Anywhere better than the North Sea, I expect you would say? Those rig workboat crews are real seamen, I must say, really take my hat off to you guys.

Ahhh, Minnehoma. My first foray into the world of gambling/racing - as a 12 yr old my mum put 25p eway on him for me <laugh>

Should have quit while I was ahead because I've been wasting my money ever since <doh>

Been a while and hope we are all well - only 4 weeks to go guys and girls and I've still a few antepost slips alive <cheers>

The good Dr knows all. Just like Charlie he wants to get the monkey of a festival winner off his back asap - unlike Charlie he knows what's required. He knows he has to be 20 lbs well in to get there - otherwise why bother - especially with a syndicate horse where people are perceived to want lots of runs. The Dr is schooled impeccably (not even Barney gets even remotely close) - and can see VR going close in the county is the ground was good.
