Good luck against Sevilla. They're a very good side, currently sitting third in La Liga - 4 pts ahead of Atlético and three behind Real. I don't know what it is. We supposedly have most of the best players, the world's best managers, more money, better facilities in most cases, yet still they're ahead of us. Maybe we just play too much football in England?
The Premier League is its' own worse enemy in terms of the technical development of players - very exciting at times - but the 100 miles an hour adrenalin rush comes with a cost ... we get to major tournaments and come up against far better technical footballers than we have been able to develop ourselves - I do think things are improving.and there is cause for some real optimism. You have Dele Alli, United havde Marcus Rashford and we have Demarai Gray for instance ... very bright futures all 3 and there are others ... Ward-Prowse at Southampton, Gibson at Middlesbro, Pickford at Sunderland... just have to keep improving.
Appreciate what you say. I was talking more if you take it 100% seriously. Sevilla are a good example of a team who have done their time in the Europe and have gone strength to strength in their league and in the CL. Obviously their CL run is about to end! I'd say Villarreal would have been the biggest threat but lost 4-0! I think it goes to show fans all value trophies but unfortunately clubs see it differently
Three main reasons we're behind Spain and Germany. 1) Every side is built on players who are, first and foremost, comfortable with the ball. 2) Grass roots football is all about who is the best player, not who the biggest and the strongest is. 3) Winter breaks. It absolutely kills football here. Should have a 2 week break between FA Cup round 3 and round 4 IMO.
Can't argue with most of that. We just have to hope, as Fosse says, that things are slowly improving.
You have to always play to your strengths, its what got you there in the first place. Adapting a method against teams that have nurtured that method for years and is in the culture of their football, to me only says 1 winner. In all comps English teams have lost 8 out of their last 11 Away games.
Its pretty embarassing irrespective that you are still in the tie. Even if arsenal were 1-0 up i would still expect them to go out. You losing to gent is nearly as bad as celtic losing to the imps of gibralter even though they ultimately went through. You just thoroughly underestimated your opponents and lost through lack of application
Indeed ... it got us into the last 16 as group winners with a game to spare ... so there really is no argument from "grown-ups" ...
Give it a rest, Booby! Upsets happen all the time. This is sport we're talking about, not a mechanistic dead-cert outcome. If Spurs bomb to Gent on the return leg, I might have some sympathy for your argument, but until then the tie is very much still open. The Arsenal v Bayern tie isn't.
You've just lost to a pub team, and haven't managed a goal from open play in 4 games, scoring only once from the spot. The annual Spurs bottling is firmly under way.
We are certainly going through a bit of a rough spot at the moment, Rodders. Poch will be working on that with the lads, in training, I am sure.
I must be shameless. Yeah MP can be a dick, I'm not the type of fan to think otherwise if otherwise is not the case...our gaffer doesn't know his arse from his elbow when it comes to cups. However if we go out, I'll feel embarrassed, at half time, 1 down, my dignity is well intact Bobby my main man.
At least you can look forward to the 'home' leg at Wembley mate, where you have such a great record.......oh wait.
