He's a Villa can and goes with his son when he can. I think he just has a great fondness for Saints and them doing well. He's been the voice on the radio for a good ten years I think so he would have been there during the fall and the rise. He's done the ride with us and I think most people would grow fond over that time period.

Cheers guys. Reading that he's a Villa supporter now rings a very vague bell in my head that someone has mentioned this before on here. I knew that he hails from the Midlands, but that was about all I had. He's very keen, I'll give him that. Both He and Whispering Dave. Merrington's a Geordie, so when he said that Saints had given the Wearsiders a footballing lesson, on Saturday, he drove the point by saying it three or four times. :)

    Indeed

From memory he used to be the 'vehind the scenes' guy in the studio, purely in the role of Editor of the sports show.

But was we fell down the leagues, regular commentator Tony Husband decided his career was not destinted to be stuck in the lower leagues commentating on Saints, so he and Laurence Herdman (Pompey commentator) started alternating games, before Husband went off to do reports on Final Score (and occassional MOTD commentaries). Herdman and Kris Temple continued to alternate the commentaries a bit on Solent with Blackmore stepping in when someone was away....before he became our regular commentator in the 2nd season of League 1.

On the early highlights you can still often hear one of the other commentators doing the League 1 games with pardew in charge.

Yes, I thought Kris Temple was a great commentator for Saints. Laurence Herdman was a bit iffy. I'm glad he stuck to Pompey. Temple now commentates on Cherries games only. They all muck in though if there's a need. Very glad that Tony Husband went off to report for Final Score and commentate for MOTD. He always seemed to be happiest when Saints conceded.

I thought he was a cherry. I'll look him up on Wiki.

EDIT: Plymouth born. Graduated from Bournemouth Uni. There's the clue, I think. <devil>

What used to piddle me off so much was that Husband began his local commentating career just as BBC Local Radio was promoting their home biased commentary approach. There were even humorous TV trailers about it. It stuck in my head because Husband was either bang neutral, or seemed happier when the opponents scored. I knew he was completely wrong for us when I first heard another regional commentator and he was on the floor when his team was losing and going mad when they were winning. Of course, since Temple and Blackmore, we have heard what local bias radio commentaries are supposed to sound like for Southampton.

Other than the build up and the actual match, I'm also looking forward to the post match interviews, especially the one where a smiling Jose Mourhino looks square at the camera and says "What a great game. Hands up, we were second best for 90 minutes and Southampton were worthy winners. How they only won by three, I don't know. The goals they had disallowed were good goals, but, as per usual, the ref was on our side and ruled them out, to keep the game interesting for the neutrals. I really love the officials. Salt of the earth. Well done Southampton, and how great it must be to have fans that aren't made of plastic and who actually live in or come from the city of the team they support. What a strange concept."

Sounds weird because we've been talking about it for weeks now and yet I still can't quite believe that I'm off to Wembley to watch us in a cup final!
