I've always been a fan of his and have a lot of respect for how he turned your club around in the 90s and I will never forget how he changed the philosophy of the English game but has he actually lost it now? Up until now I have been 100% confident Arsenal would finish top 4, for me they have too much quality not to but when he signed Oxlaide-Chamberlain (who will be a great player btw) I got the feeling that Arsenal coughed up the money as a sign that Nasri would be leaving, but to hear both are close to leaving just seems catastrophic. Don't get me wrong Wilshere and Ramsey are great players but not in the same mould as Fabregas or Nasri. Most Arsenal fans I've spoken too seem to believe keeping Nasri is more important but I couldn't disagree more. I actually don't feel losing Nasri on his own would be that disappointing for Arsenal considering he will never oust Song, Wilshere and Fabregas from the central midfield position anyway but losing both would be disastrous I believe. I'm not having a go at Arsenal here I'm fully aware my club have our own big problems but I just can't believe for a second Wenger will really offload your two best midfielders and bring in Scott Dann. Wenger has always defended his decision to buy foreign highlighting overpricing of English players as a reason, I just don't get it!
Lots of smoke and mirrors at the moment - give it until august 31st and then make a decision on his transfer dealings. Imo he has done well so far in the transfer market and we will be suprised by the additions he makes.
Cesc and Nasri want to go so really it's no point keeping players who would rather be elsewhere. Their presence especially when they are not giving their best would just undermine the team. Whilst Cesc is an outstanding player, as a captain he does leave quite a lot to be desired. The 55m we will get for them can be put to good use in revamping the team. Remember it's not always who you buy but how you bring the best out of them. Arsene has a good track record of nurturing talent and creating future stars. He may have been very committed to his youth policy but I believe he also realises the need for trophies now. I'm willing to see who he'll bring in and what he'll make of them. From now on, there is every reason to look to everything that is positive.
United lost Ronaldo and Tevez in the same season and people were writing them off. They finished 1 point behind Chelsea and won the league the season after. It is in the nature of everybody in this country to write teams or people off all the time. Arsenal have finished in the Top 4 for the past 15 seasons I believe. They have the experience and know how to get there, City have been there for 1 season. Liverpool have been declining for 3 years now and Tottenham were a one hit wonder. Arsenal will still be Arsenal because of Wenger and I still expect them to be up there. I think they will fall short in the title race though.
Yes I think Wenger has lost it. We needed to strengthen over the summer but Suprise, Suprise we're selling our best players again and NOT addressing our weaknesses.(I honestly CANT believe we hav'nt signed a defender. its ****ing ******ed) We'll be Ok with Ramsey and Wilshere in our ranks but its just highly infuriating to see our Club going round in circles. Its 2006 all over again and frankly I'm bored. Change strategy or leave Mr Wenger. Fabregas is 10 x the player Nasri could ever be. I will be genuinely sad to see him go.
Wenger has totally and utterly lost the plot, losing Fabregas and Nasri together will be catastophic and unless he makes some really big name signings in the next 3 weeks we are sunk. Remember our horrendous form last season from the CC Final on and that is how we will be without reinforcements. Wenger apaologists keep saying give him more time is seven years without a trophy not enough, he is having a laugh at the fans expense, his time wil soon be up.
"United lost Ronaldo and Tevez in the same season and people were writing them off. They finished 1 point behind Chelsea" Err, did they replace them with two League One players?
We will not get the same quality as Fabregas, but give the man a chance. The transfer window is still open and to judging the guy before then is pointless. We simply do not know what will happen. Hold fire until then.
yes of course he has!! By not dealing with the obvious weaknesses and continuing to play poor players in the team - the wrong message went out to the likes of Fabregas, Nasri, Clichy etc. Wenger has shown that Arsenal are content to do just enough to get 4th place and not win anything. If he went ' upstairs' I'm not sure I'd be sorry......
When we were on the real 606, I went back and looked at the articles for 2003. They were very similar to this one I just googled: #4: Arsenal: Strengths: Thierry Henry, a young squad, and a great manager. Weaknesses: Lack of depth and too much depends on one man. Just don’t see Arsenal doing too much this season. They will easily beat the bottom half teams thanks to goals from Henry. Will struggle against the top teams. They haven’t addressed their problem at the centre of defence or in the strikers and their midfielders role. Let’s see if Wenger can spring another surprise. Will end up 4th and will struggle in Europe. Read more: http://blogcritics.org/sports/article/english-premier-league-predictions/#ixzz1UlMQECIX
When the transfer window closes and the dust settle as it were then we are in a position to judge wenger and his signings properly. Ill be gutted if fabregas and nasri go but at the end of the day no one is bigger than the club and whats the point of keeping players (one our captain i might add!) who dont want to be there. Time and time again i have said one of our biggest problems is our captain, i hope wenger addresses this. Mcnulty, Hansen etc and the rest of the gobshite pundits have once again dug out the same worn out old script they have been pitching for the last 6 years, we wont finish outside the top four but im sorry for 6 years we have proved them wrong and i would expect us to continue to do so, be nice if we could get a bit of silverware in too!
Yes, he has no idea when it comes to defence and this has been Arsenal's undoing for the last few years (whereas Man U and Chelsea have had VDS/Ferdinand/Vidic and Cech/Terry/Carvalho)
I can't believe people are so desperate to sack a man for what he supposedly has or hasn't done in the future.
desparate? My conclusion is after several years of AW watching - he has tinkered with his youth experiment and pissed off world class players. He is hopeless at organising defence - cannot abandon certain poor players - does not see that our squad has never been strong enough - wrings his hands and kicks water bottles when the team HE SELECTS are chokers. School report - initially carried great hopes and potential - but rested on laurels for many terms until now, when his peer group have excelled while he refuses to work. Will never be good enough for the top class.
According to our squad list we have had all summer to do business but have only bought 2 players from ligue 1 and Gervinho.
