I can only assume the rumours about 1 or both of Snod and Gradel going were actually a lot more than rumours so he was brought in as a potential replacement (or at least cover for their direct replacement such as Sam). Now them leaving seems to have all been out to bed he is surplus to req. Didnt do any harm to have him here just in case, actually very good foresight and preparation for all eventualities from SG. Him being here won`t have stopped anyone else coming in on trial, so no harm done. Bet you hate me sometimes
1. Grayson is interesting in signing Mendy who feels he would be good cover/insurance if Bates forced the sale of Gradel/Snodgrass 2. Grayson says he'd be interested in signing him, adding the proviso that he might go out on loan (probably if Gradel/Snodgrass had stayed so Mendy wouldn't get restless and we could test out his ability in England as we did with Nunez, Grella and Somma). 3. Grayson says there are 'complications' (Bates doesn't want to pay Mendy's wages). 4. Negotiations break down because Bates is a cheapskate. 5. Bates tells Grayson not to mention that he's a cheapskate because that would portray Mr Chairman in a bad light and cost Grayson his job. 6. Grayson improvizes by telling Kirwin to inform the masses that we didn't need Mendy anyway because there's already adequate cover. He's not lost the plot, Bates has.
Phil Thats what its all about, different views, I love it. Some saddo's take it too heart and get all abusive. What I always say is, If someone disagrees with me, I listen to what they say, think about it for a minute, and decide am right anyway
Grayson did say the guy had "potential" - so did not think he was ready to go into the 1st team. And it could it be that Mendy made it clear that he did not want to go on loan go to a lower division team? Under the circumstances, Grayson decided not to proceed - we have enough wingers at the moment. Just an alternative scenario!
It`s a poor do mate, I didn`t even notice his comment until you mentioned it. We really are dealing with the L2 of wummers nowadays. Odd shock comes along which makes you laugh, the rest of the time just completely unnoticed.
It's Bates not Grayson. If SG wanted to sign Mendy a week ago, I doubt he's changed his mind now. It's just Kenny has decided he can't afford the wages of a free agent who's previous club was in Czech Republic. Tbh, we don't really need a winger so I'm not disapointed. But I'd like the manager to be able to sign players that he wants. There's a lot of pressure and expectation for a Leeds United manager, so SG is getting all that without even being able to bring in players.
Deleted that WUM's comment because it was so ****e. Come at us with something interesting if you're going to bother.
Does the following quote not make you think he's only enough money for one more player's wages? Maybe he wanted to get Mendy in but opted for an out an out striker (what were still apparently in the hunt for!). "We spoke about Alex in terms of a contract, but it's about prioritising what we are looking for..." - SG http://www.leedsunited.com/news/20110811/trialists-continue-to-come-under-scrutiny_2247585_2417081
Quite possibly but again, that is ****e if it is the case... We lose Naylor, Higs, Kasper, Kilkenny, Johnson and probably 4 loan players in Watts, Lichaj and the others... We get two replacement keepers and Brown and O'Dea on loan so wages must surely be down this season.
And if it is Bates what's he supposed to say? "I wanted to get him but Bates vetoed it, the tight bastard". When all these people are demanding that Larry says "back me or sack me" I don't think they quite understand that'll mean he gets sacked, look what happened to Job Done.
As much as clivetime winds me up with his anti Grayson dribble you are starting to do the same by being 100 % positive all the time. Get some balance Simon pleaseeee
Think Simon has a point with this one to be honest. Grayson's actually being quite risky applauding the fans when Bates Out chants start and he didn't defend Bates today in his LUTV interview after discussing the protest and anti-Bates chants at Bradford and Southampton, apparently. That's as close as he can go without his job being terminated. Behind the scenes, I bet Grayson, Snodin, Kirwin, the players and all the other club operatives are burning to see the fans force Bates out of the club. It's just that there's nothing they can do about it.
Except that if Bates didn't have a penchant for tin pot managers, Grayson wouldn't have a job. And if Bates didn't set up a tin pot radio station, Kirwin wouldn't have a job.
I've got a feeling Grayson is going, and soon! Pushed or jumping out. Bates is taking the piss out of him in public now. Bates has also been at TA most of today too, with a rumour on Twitter of something happening? I feel a bit for Grayson, he has his faults as a young manager, but Bates is ****ing him over
