When the team play well, the fans stay and enjoy themselves....despite none of them putting the ball in the net themselves. So the way I look at it, the players can't leave the pitch early when the game is lost, so neither should the fans. If you are there for the good stuff, you have to be there for the pain. Even when we lose, it isn't because the players haven't tried.

True. But fans pay a lot of money for entertainment. The board and owner are more to blame than the team.

It's that blame culture again. It's football; we're not going to win every week, & we're not going to make great progress every season.

Football is a metaphor for life; sometimes you have suck up the bad stuff, retain a bit of faith, & not look for someone to blame all the time.

    No it isn't.

I exert maximum control and influence over the events in my life.

I have no control over what happens in a football match other than to say **** that I am not going to go any more.

While I don't agree with the hordes leaving early......We at Saints should at least understand their frustration. I could be wrong but my understanding is that is the way northerners tend to show their disgust at the way their team played rather than boo them off the field as we in the south tend to do. I must admit to seeing this up in Scotland a few times as a boy, although I have known them boo their players on and off, occasionally.
Most of the northerners that I know are very passionate about their favourite team and wouldn't dream of walking out early but they do get very frustrated when their team loses. No different I suppose to any other fan.............

Of all the clubs, they are treated the most poorly by their owner. Even Hull make them look bad, and that's frankly unacceptable. No slating from me.

Oh they booed the hell out of them at half time, and those that were left at full time too yesterday Beddy.

This is a daft argument, if you don't mind me saying so. People also pay a lot of money for Lottery tickets too, but they don't blame the machines when they don't win every week. Going to watch your team play is exactly like a lottery, whichever club you support. A million different factors affect the way players play, referees' decisions, the bounce of the ball off a divot, and ultimately the result. Sometimes, like yesterday, the million factors align favourably, mostly by design but with a modicum of good fortune, and Saints get a fantastic victory. Other times things don't turn out so well.

The one thing we can legitimately lay at the door of Les Reed and co. is the failure to replace Pellé last summer, but none of us actually know for certain why that didn't happen.

Perhaps the Sunderland fans are more nippy than us....takes a while to pick up bags, walking sticks and flasks. :)

I think it's midnight tonight but I'm not sure. I always record MOTD for that very reason!

I've seen various highlights many times and I still get confused briefly by Sunderland being the ones in red and white stripes. Also can someone please tell Redmond that a hair do like a bleach-dipped bog brush is not a good look.

I'm away this weekend so was unable to watch the game. I assumed it would be Romeu and JWP in the middle with Davis between them and the striker and Tadic and Redmond either side of him. With Tadic being number 10 this clearly wasn't the case?

Just out of interest, who exactly played where?

Redmond left, Tadic 10, JWP right. SD advanced pivot of the two with Oriol. There was some fluidity to that though, as ever.

That's how I saw it, though it did take a year or so for me to work out why my stream was terrible, so I may be wrong.
