Well I'm surprised that gabby hasn't had too much of a mention. I'm trying to think of the last forward that we signed and who got 3 goals in his first two matches? Was it Lambert? I know Shearer got a hat trick on his debut against Arsenal can't think of anyone else, can you guys?
Gabby is certainly earning his stripes that's for sure, if he carries on like this we will have a problem hanging on to him. So make hay Saints while the sun shines.........

 

Did Puel mention anything about Jay or was it just his behaviour on the bench? Shame if it ends acramoniously as he was one the most exciting players I've seen at saints pre injury.

 

Ah, they missed him saying 'that's it'. I bet he was just about to say it too. His interview with Adam Blackmore on Solent was way better.

 

Haha that would be something, buy in Jan sell in July.

Thinking the same watching it. I was glad he missed a couple, we want to hold onto him till at least January ....

 

I will say though that watching it I thought that Dusan and Manolo looked unplayable at times

 

A few performances stood out for me.

Gabbiadini - Obviously. Great start to his Saints career, he makes us look so much more threatening
Bertrand - Got forward really well. I get the feeling he relishes Gabbiadini's movement and the opportunity to get forward and get the ball to him
Stephens - Another promising performance. Made several really good interceptions and tackles. I actually thought he was marginally better than Yoshida today. Zlatan will be some test though
JWP - Got forward reasonably well. Couple of decent shots, another assist. I still feel he's going to start scoring more pretty soon

 

Moyes hinting that the Referee favoured us, how was his performance today?

That's the essential difference. Jay has returned, but he isn't as good as he was, not quite. And what is worse for him is that Saints are stronger these days [don't look at the table] as a squad. Every competitive team has got that little bit better and Jay has gone backwards a bit. He has time on his side, but I suspect that he may spend the rest of career trying to reach the level he was at just before his injury. Honestly, I think Saints have waited long enough. Plenty of clubs would have shipped him out while he was recovering.

 

Not his debut, think that was v Millwall or some other thuggery team.

His starting debut was home to Arsenal I think...

 

Henri Camara scored in his first two games. Last player to do that for us in the Prem

 

Didnt draw attention to himself. Annoyed both sets of supporters so must have been even handed.
