My Cousin tried chatting up the current captain, Jenna Schillachi, about 4 or 5 years back...

Didn't go how he wanted it too.

This has actually hit the front page of reddit/soccer, somewhat surprisingly:

Sort of Cruyff turn, smashed into the top corner and it's a last minute winner, too.

Because international football is Satan for us, Jonathan de Bie has spent the past week in hospital due to taking a hefty whack to the midsection in an U17 international against France, and after the match he lost consciousness and when rushed to hospital it was discovered said hefty whack had ruptured his spleen - which means he'll be spending another four to six weeks recovering back home in Belgium before returning to training.

Finished the match with a ruptured spleen. They make them tough in Belgium, apparently.

I think it would've suited him last season, but he's much cleaner now.
It's really impressed me, as I thought he'd be a bit of a liability on that side of things, to be honest.
    He's been superb, though.

Vic the Butcher who wears an apron then <doh> <wink>

On a real, I agree, it was a concern but he's been superb, impressive in every aspect of his game. Just needs extra finishing classes to take his game to another level.

Not sure whether this a subject for this threat or hack watch. Anyway, was listening to TalkShite during the week around 20:00 when they should be being a bit more focused on sport rather than wummery. Alas, were having an apparently serious discussion about Wiggins, TUEs and the the "mysterious package" he received during a race a few years back. On one hand the pitch was very journalistic, making the perfectly valid points about nobody having proof about what was in the package, and mentioning some of the contradictory statements that have been made about it. Seems fair enough and for all I know the package was full up with illegal race winning drugs. This is certainly implied in all of this without specifically saying so (in a libelous sort of way).

For all I know that is exactly what the package was - it is certainly the conclusions you are expected to draw. There is apparently further evidence to be presented to Parliament (outside the laws of libel etc) on 22 February when we may know more BUT surely this is why the principle of innocent until proven guilty is so important. This programme, and just about everything else we've heard on the subject, was nothing but mud slinging. Nothing but sensationalism hidden under the cover of "good for the sport" when they mean good for the journalists. Destroy someone's reputation for their own gain, who'd have thought it! The one thing they didn't offer was any evidence about what was in the package, and are effectively saying that it's illegal substances because the other side can't prove it wasn't. Well the principle of innocence doesn't work like that. You don't have to prove you're innocent, and for very good reason. You very rarely have a good alibi for something you haven't done. On the other hand I would have thought that if there was anything dodgy about that package they would have had all sorts of paperwork proving it wasn't!

Sure the cycling authorities and Sky have done themselves no good whatsoever by not having a proper paper trail about the package and with the statements they have made, but that in itself is not evidence of wrongdoing. One of the reasons that conspiracy theories take hold so well is that the truth isn't as exciting and rarely has a good paper trail and why should it. I suggest that if you investigate almost anything completely innocent you can probably make it sound dodgy by selective evidence and constantly pointing to the lack of evidence of innocence.

Now I don't know what was in the package, nor that there wasn't really illegal substances in it. I do know that those that are mud slinging have highlighted procedure errors, admin errors and human errors (for which many should be blamed) but not shown illegal drugs use at this time, nor explained how it would have helped (surely the best use of drugs, if you are into such things, is improve training outside of competition, not in the middle of a race?) I am also sure that Sky have pushed the boundaries on TUE exemptions, but again that is not illegal. 22 February may prove otherwise, but I suspect it will not be conclusive and we will be in a situation where the lesser informed will go with this mud slinging and assume that all this "evidence" proves illegal stuff - it doesn't - but the achievements of our cyclists may well be tainted by what may be no more than sports "journalists" seeking glory.

Deserves a knighthood for this. Simple as that. Top bloke through and through and an ambassador for the game (as well as being a role model to prevent the next generation of millionaire footballers turning into ****s who play for chelsea).

I hope Sunderland stay up - just for this. They've brought so much joy into Bradley's fragile life. If they drop and the likes of Palace stay up, I will start a petition to have them reinstated with immediate effect, and for the London Stadium and all of its trappings to be bequeathed to Lord Jermain Colin Defoe of Newham.
