My favourite Jam track was...... I saw Weller do a very, very early gig as The Style Council for CND in Brockwell Park, Brixton. The other main bands were The Damned, Aswad and Madness. The skinheads took against Mick and Paul and canned them off stage. I left without watching Madness play.
Morrissey /Marr marmite to many but when you hear the genius , This Charming Man , The boy with the thorn , How soon is Know , Headmaster's Ritual, William , There's a light , The poetry 'Jumped up pantry boy " with indie jangle of Marr built on a Northern gritty kitchen sink landscape . Brilliance but not for everybody.
Didn't take to the Southern rock thing . A little undercurrent of redneck ask Neil Young. Hence Sweet home Alabama.
That's because your a mod old son . I love the Small Faces Cockney phycodellic, summer of love masterpiece.
The Damned play psychedelia, which they do extremely well - see the Naz Nomad and the Nightmares album. They are currently working on their 11th album and when last speaking about it, The Captain suggested it would have a large psychedelic leaning. This was written to mark the passing of their great mate Malcolm Owen of The Ruts. I still get chills nearly 40 years on.
I saw them at Rebellion last summer and they were great, as usual. I think this is one of the definitive punk singles. No other genre of music could have spawned such a song and great cover art. Stunning.
I love The Byrds. Whoever 'wrote' that may have been listening to 'Needles and Pins?' Addendum - Just looked it up on Wiki and the writer admitted it was 'based on' that riff. Ahem? Based on?
You don't have to be young to enjoy a bit of noise! Here's the incomparable Fleetwood Mac getting a helping hand or two, and giving it some welly! Second half of this could be our Friday song...... it's about time I worked on it!
Meant to apologise for the visual quality - seems to be the price we have to pay for the grand sound!
And one for you, Spurf???? Saw this live at the Albert Hall - but not on quite the scale of the Edinburgh Tattoo!
