Lots of pubs have been given colloquial nicknames, Humber Dock Tavern was always known as Green Bricks, Star n Garter was Rayners, Crows Nest was always **** n Sticks. ......as the Chinese lady might say to Ehaw, it's no biggie.
I spent a bit of my early drinking age supping down hessle road and some of the pubs used to be known by the landlords name! Millers! Rayners! Jenny's etc ( i put etc because i can't think of anymore)
totally agree preferred the look before and obviously the name went with the outside decor....now it just looks like another stuck up wine bar.
Unless my memory's playing tricks, when I was in my teens I thought it was known as ''green bricks'' due to the facade, despite it being Humber Dock Tavern?
Yeah exactly, 50k won't achieve much. A large chunk of that will be spent on new signs! If they're going to do it, do it properly but this seems a half-arsed approach.
Just back from a couple of days in Hull, thought the blade looked stunning. Had my tea one night in Lion and Key, good beer and excellent fish and chips. This was early Tuesday evening, place was almost packed, and most were eating afore-mentioned fish and chips! Also had a couple in the Whalebone in Wincolmlee, great old-fashioned and authentic boozer, not sure where they get their customers from though, no car park and no houses in that area. Anyone know it and can enlighten me?
Real ale beardy weirdys come from all over to go there for the award winning ale. Knew a few lads who lived on bridlington ave who used to go in there. It's not far for them
Yes, good beer and lots of old City photos around (and Hull FC). There was a wake on when I was in, had been going a while and there was a bloke the spit of Yosser Hughes, was expecting a fight to break out any minute...
Really enjoyed it, Tuffers is a great story teller, though I had heard some of the material before. I thought you'd have to be a cricket fanatic, but Mrs A enjoyed it, and she certainly isn't. How was Canon n Ball? Can't believe it was only Saturday we were lamenting that we hadn't anything new organised for CofC!
