Thanks for that. Wish I'd known about Dennis's allegiance when we met (they played for us in 2010 and 2012). I did all the booking and arrangements. [I also compered!] I dealt mostly with Gerry McAvoy. And Brendan O'Neill is a friend. But they've both left the band since then.
This thread keeps on unearthing musical memories for me! Richard Digance used to have a radio programme in the early 80s, called RDU2 (Richard Digance and you too!). I was a deputy head at a school in Plaistow at the time - where he was born - and ran a folk club at the school. I wrote to him and we got tickets for the show. I also asked him to sing Working Class Millionaire (my favourite!). During the broadcast, he called me out, asked me if I sang it, I said yes - and he proceeded to put me on the spot! I hit a terrible bum note at the end of the first verse (you could hear his sharp intake of breath on the recording!) and after that he just got me to sing with him on the choruses! So I can say I sang this song on the radio...... sort of!!! Sadly, the only versions available online seem to be by well-meaning but very amateur imitators..... not worthy of posting, I'm afraid! Google at your peril!
One of the popular music shows of the 70's was actually on Radio 3! 'Sounds Interesting' used to be on Sunday evenings as I recall and hosted by Derek Jewel. He was a jazz fan at heart, but he played anything as long as it fitted the title. Prog featured, as did the Jazz Fusion / Jazz Rock elements such as Brand X, UK, Weather Report and Return to Forever. But I recall he also played stuff from the Boomtown Rats to Larry Adler!! But one album I really remember him lauding was 'Oneness' by Carlos Santana. One of the great guitar solos - although you might want to skip to 1.30 as it takes a while to build!!
Santana always makes me think of this........now, that's 2 different ways to do the same song....blink and you'll miss the Subs. Comparatively, Santana's version lasts a week. I like both but Mrs B isn't having Santana. Apparently, it's musical ****ing. So there.
Or you could just go for the original... Two British pop/rock greats started their careers with the Zombies: Rod Argent and Colin Blunstone
I wouldn't argue with it being the best version. I also like Argent's 'God gave Rock 'n' Roll to You' although the bassist wearing the Arsenal shirt in the footage from TOGWT is a major reason not to put it on here.
Not a particular fan of Tim Minchin, but I thought this was funny: Not nearly as good as this, though:
How about this - another great Argent song and not a Gooner shirt in sight!! In fact not too many shirts at all
Trying to squeeze past the 1500 other people on your crowded train so you can get off at your stop? This'll help...
I love psychedelia and mix it with Motown to achieve perfection. I went to see The Temptations and Four Tops at the O2 in Greenwich [Charlton] a few years back with a mate who is a Motown fanatic. We had front row seats The Motown Orchestra were extraordinary and these 2 tracks were worth the exorbitant ticket price alone.
