Keep at it mate, there's nothing to gain from giving up. I'm a very fast gainer, when my diet is on point I'll put size and strength on quickly and it'll be lean rather than the boring bulk and cut method. My tip for everybody who works out is to focus on the exercises and lifts that make you feel uncomfortable. I see people every day avoiding pull ups and deads because they hurt.
Tel, The joys of daytime tele, there is a consumer programme on BBC at the moment which is comparing Coconut Oil to other cooking oils. They are saying Coconut oil has 92% saturated fat compered to 17% in Olive Oil. Butter& Lard are 50% less in saturated fat than Coconut oil. As for cholesterol whilst is has good HDL it also contains others that far outweigh the benefits it gives you. Just thought I'd pass this info on for you. Blame Gloria Hunniford and don't shoot the messenger.
Biggest producer of coconut oil -Philippines World Rankings Cardiac Deaths - Philippines - 1 Stroke Deaths - Philippines - 2 Obviously loads of other factors like smoking, lifestyle, other foods, etc. But if the wife brought coconut oil into the house I'd assume she's trying to kill me for my life insurance!
That shows some very ignorant understanding from that program mate, if they're pushing saturated fat as a bad thing. I think you have to treat each ingredient and how you want to use it differently. I wouldn't put lard in my shake. I wouldn't use coconut oil on roast potatoes like Nacho did. I wouldn't fry anything in olive/vegetable oil, but I'd put it on my salad/pasta in it's raw form. It's a subject that really would take an eternity to cover the whole points.
Check out the stats for Sri Lankans who are the biggest consumers of coconuts per capita, or something.
Agreed, everyone has an opinion and if you search long enough you'll find someone to say what you want to project in your programme, just thought you'd like to know as it is so current at present.
I know it gets a bad rep from certain parts as well mate, it has to, it's got the potential to kill a huge market so there'll obviously be a lot of money being pumped into finding it's flaws. I just speak from what I know, it works for me, it's a small part of my healthy lifestyle, I could still live a healthy life without it.
page 5 and only just joining in. i eat what the wife cooks which to be fair is probably healthyish stuff. The usual food like chicken, fish plenty veg and salad stuffs, very little fried stuff. She told me that if i were to buy anything look on the packets as they have a sort of like traffic light system where green is good, amber or yellow is ok and red is not good for you. When she goes out and i have to fend for myself i eat right **** that she never cooks for me
I eat a lot more seafood nowadays, I don't really like salmon cooked but I like it in Sushi and smoked salmon for breakfast is nice. Mackerel is lush, but has bones, so I never buy it... the second I find a bone the food gets slam dunked into the bin. Cod, Talapia, Seabass, Tuna... all good, like Squid too.
I've heard bad things about tilapia, that a lot of it in this country comes from Vietnam which has some of the most polluted rivers in Asia. Can't say I've gotten around to looking into it though. I love fish. Can't get enough of it but it means I'm full of plastic now if I believe the news. I can't eat processed crap and we're told the fresh stuff we do eat is buggered as well! Damned either way these days.
Eating ''healthy'' can be a full time nightmare if trying to follow all the latest trends, superfoods and conflicting information. A simpler way to get a decent diet is to go to the supermarket and set out to only buy things that your granny would recognise. I also refuse to buy anything that they push with a ''3 for 2'' ,'' 4 for £5'' etc sticker on - they are sugar laden crap food which they look to push for mass turnover. If you need to look on the packet at a long list of '' ingredients'' , good bet that most of them are chemicals - an apple doesn't need a sticker to tell you whats in it. As far as supermarkets go, I enter and immediately tell myself that they and the food manufacturers are trying to take your money not caring whether they screw everyones' health. Surprising how many things don't get put in the basket.
Good simple advice. I never thought of it that way. I won't be eating ***gots tripe or pigs trotters for no one though!!!
That's sort of how I do my shopping, although my gran would tell a chicken is a chicken, and I refuse to touch a chicken unless it's free range or preferably organic.
Can I use myself as an example, not to say that anything is wrong but to suggest that consideration is rarely wasted. In my youth I played Rugby for about 18 Seasons. IN my spare time I would make up the team at football. I also did cross country running, (in the days when we DID actually run across the countryside), in the winter and middle distance running, 'specialising' in the 3000mtr Steeplechase, in the summer. This all died out at about 30. After a few year break the half marathon craze came along and I joined in with a vengeance. At age 55 I had some work done on a knee which put paid to running, so I walked a lot. At 68 I needed a hip replacement and worried about my weight I started going to The Gym about eight months after this. I usually did two or three sessions a week until recently. My knee has gone again and I'm waiting for treatment and lady luck has had a laugh at my expense and given me a hernia at the same time. I'm temporarily, (I hope) almost housebound. The gym membership is cancelled though I hope to renew it eventually. I thoroughly enjoyed all of these activities and would do them all again but with this one caveat. I wouldn't try quite as hard. I was poor footballer and an average Rugby player (who did a good tackle). I was a very average athlete and I was never going to challenge for any sort of honours. But I did challenge myself and I think that I just might have lost because at times I pushed myself that bit too hard. I enjoyed The GNR more when I did it in 2 hour + than when I ducked under 1 1/2 hours.
You've done well I played football but was much better at five a side I was pretty fit although due to work commitments I'm a shamed to say I've done nothing for over twenty years. Past few years have been tough and I can't see me getting fit again I think the best is to try and control my weight
Plenty of country walks where we are, Vince. Just get yourself out for an hour a day, even that will make all the difference to your health, weight and fitness
