I think that's something that a lot of English clubs seem to do wrong. They don't have an overall vision for the club and just bring in managers that they think are good. Switch from one style of football to a completely different one and they don't have the players for it. Bring in a whole new batch, get pissed off with the manager and then start the process again.
Anyway, Simeone winning La Liga, Copa del Rey, Europa League, and getting to two CL finals in his first 6 years at Atletico tells people that he's able to challenge at the top level. As I've pointed out, to break the dominance of Real and Barca in La Liga and win the league there is a massive achievement. Also following it up with two 3rd places is no slouch. I dread to think how Moyes and Hodgson would have fared ? Probably as well as Gary Neville. Simeone's style is very different to what we have currently at Arsenal, so it would be a big culture shift and it would take a period of transition. As for the speculation that Gooners would get impatient and start calling for his head, we've probably some of the most patient fans going, we've just sat through 13 years of not winning the league
I definitely think that Hodgson has passed his sell-by date, as far as the Arsenal job is concerned. It's probably the case with Moyes, too, tbh. That as may be, it doesn't mean that Simeone would be a good fit for Arsenal. As I said before, I cannot imagine that the typical Gooner is going to give the likes of Simeone three seasons to find his feet in the Prem, which is what I think he may well need. Would Moyes have a better chance of getting 4th spot for Arsenal, right out of the blocks? I don't know. I'm just putting it out there for debate.
Are you actually being serious ? At what point do you think that either Moyes or Hodgson would have been a serious consideration to replace Wenger ?
Lol doubt it Hiag, Moyes didn't handle the United job well, based on that, he will be bottom of any list. Maybe Pardew, he was up for the England gig once.
Not saying that either Moyes or Hodgson could do a job at Arsenal, now, but I think it's foolish to say that neither of them would have been seen as a good fit, when each was at their height, and before they were exposed by the United and 'Pool jobs, respectively. Hodgson, in particular, would have been viewed by the Arsenal board as a very safe pair of hands for their bulging coffers. It just goes to show how great a virtue hindsight is! Anyway, as I say, it's all a matter of opinion.
That's exactly the kind of thing I'm thinking of, Spurly! With hindsight, it's easy to laugh off the likes of Moyes, Hodgson and AVB, but at one time any of those might have been considered for the Arsenal job.
I agree on that and think it's something we've done well under our current ownership. Find the man to suit the club so your squad doesn't need a complete overhaul and it should make a smoother transition.
The thing with Moyes at Man U is Van Persie . The season before Man U did well with Van Persie scoring a ton of goals and playing almost all games . Moyes got little from Van Persie the next season as Van Persie got injured . If the injury situation was reversed I belive Moyes would have done much better and Fergusion might have struggled a bit ... just my opinion though
When specifically though ? At what point during Wenger's tenure are you suggesting that they would have been seen as a 'good fit' for Arsenal ?
i honestly can't see Simeone leaving Atletico when they're about to move into their brand new 73,000 seater stadium
Exactly, Roofie! Moyes was very unlucky with the way things panned out for him, at United. I'm not saying that he would have done the job at Arsenal, but I do think it a little rash to completely dismiss any suggestion that he would not have been considered for the job had Wenger got sacked at that point in time just before Moyes took over at United. Same with Hodgson and AVB.
I get the logic Roofus. Good luck on the weekend. Clement looks like he means business. I don't see you going down.
