Were only selling basically cos the board dont wanna risk losing him for nothing, we have known this was coming all summer and from what I have heard the deal will only be santioned once we have signed Pieters. Your in the same situation with Gordon sell him this summer or lose a prized asset for nothing in 12 months
It's hard to be gutted though when we seem to already have a quality replacement lined up. We've known Enrique would be off for months, so the shock of the whole thing was never there. I'm disappointed though, definitely. Not gutted, just disappointed. Mind you, I will be gutted if we don't bring in a good replacement, cos we'll be ****ed. He's obviously not the best in the world by any stretch of the imagination. If he's first choice for Holland though, one of the best national teams in the world, then I'm fairly confident he has something to do the job for us. Seeing him play just confirms that. Not expecting someone superb.
I think this relegation talk is well off to be honest, Wigan have signed their death warrant selling N'zogbia. Their are at least 5/6 team's easily worse than them.
Enrique is one of the best in the league. Pieters is ****. He's only in the Dutch squad because they struggle to produce wing backs, Van Bronkhorst remained first choice till he was 36-37 ish. Hasn't Anita of Ajax often been preferred to Pieters, despite being right-footed? Remove the question element of that, as i was stating a fact. You'd have been better going for Warnock.
we already have two international goalkeepers fighting for his number 1 shirt, so if gordon goes it's no big deal!!
Ha ha. That's fair enough I guess it comes down to combining age, price & wages, then add the fact that left backs are rare, and your a bit(lot) restricted by your clubs transfer policy.
My point is would you wanna lose him for nothing? What about the £9m you paid for him you can potentally just write that off then if its no big deal
Well I am absolutely gutted that he has gone. It was to be expected mind. I think that Enrique is a super player, he used to scare me sometimes though, as he always wants to try and play the ball out of defence and took more than a few chances in doing this. I would hope that as we have known for months that he was going, we would have a decent replacement lined up. Pieters looks decent enough, but you never know with NUFC. Enrique going will have weakened the team, but he wants to break into the Spanish national team and has ambitions for playing in Europe, neither of which look like happening if he stayed with Newcastle. Liverpool have a much higher profile and by spending like they have, they are showing that at least they have ambitions of getting back into European football.
Yeah, really, it was clear a while back he was gonna go though, you'd have been better biting the bullet and selling earlier, it's cost you a few quid off his true value, for sure. He'll become Spain's number 3 at Anfield.

I think the offers havent been there to sell him early, and as I said b4 I believe that the deal wont be allowed to go through till the Pieters deal is tied up, and Pieters has a clause in he contract to allow him to leave, so its just a case of agreeing terms with the player
I'd imagine that Liverpool will force for the deal to be done before the weekend, and Ashley will go for that regardless, rather than lose the deal. Shouldn't be hard to tie Pieters down though, he'll be on peanuts compared to the Premier League, and as Jose is freeing up a reported 60k a week, half of that should be ample.
How can you say Pieters is **** if you've barely seen him? He's quite a good player and a solid left back. As I said, being first choice for Holland doesn't mean he's a world beater, but he'll do for us.
Seen him quite a bit Chappaz, as it happens. The Dutch League is widely broadcast on bet365, pretty much every PSV & Ajax game is on their, as well as ESPN showing the early game on a Sunday last season. ****'s a bit extreme, but i'd say average, and that's in a weaker league. He'll be ok i imagine, but he's certainly markedly weaker than Jose. Big lad mind, 6 footer.
That lot will be selling the tea set out of the boardroom next. Pardew has now lost 3 or their best 4 now and Barton is out in the cold. They look set for a long hard winter. They must be looking like favourites for the drop. What are the bookies saying about their chances?
