That's such a lame excuse mate.

Since 2003 you've spent 3/4 of a Billion pounds on players, and are comfortably the 4th highest spenders in the league - both gross and net.

That is an awful lot of money mostly spent badly. Liverpool as a club has been badly run by various owners for decades I'm afraid and until it
    stops nothing will really change.

Kept that quiet, shady practice from West Brom, kept his price high despite questionable conduct by the player.

If it was an FA ban shouldn't they have a press release out it? All seems abit dodgy to me.

Hughes said that Stoke knew about it before they signed him apparently.

Static top 6 is the wrong way to describe it but the reality is there pretty much was a top 4 and there pretty much has been a top 6.

Arsenal, utd, Chelsea, Liverpool with a scattering of ... wait for it ... Leeds, Blackburn and Newcastle made way for Arsenal, utd, Chelsea, Liverpool, city, Spurs with a scattering of Everton, Villa and Southampton.

Liverpool have only made the top 4 once in 7 years as they've been ousted by the oil clubs, United have only made the top 4 once in the 3 years since Fergie left. Chelsea were midtable last season. It's nowhere near as set as it was in the early years of the PL when the top 4 was largely a closed shop and self perpetuating due to the vast additional income that CL football gave the established top 4.

The playing field is more even now, due to the vast increase in domestic TV revenue.

Premier League's been around for 24 years and Liverpool have finished top 4 14 times in that period. Interesting you said 7 years, if you change that to a nice round 10 years then we've finished top 6 6 times!. The 4 years we haven't could be the anomaly, the only way to see which are the anomalies is for more time to pass.

The early years of the PL saw a very similar picture, it was nowhere near a closed shop -
    utd, Villa, Norwich, Blackburn
    utd, Blackburn, Newcastle, Arsenal
    Blackburn, utd, Forest, Liverpool
    utd, Newcastle, Villa, Arsenal
    utd, Newcastle, Arsenal, Liverpool
    Arsenal, utd, Liverpool, Leeds
    utd, Arsenal, Chelsea, Leeds
    utd, Arsenal, Leeds, Liverpool
    utd, Arsenal, Liverpool, Leeds
    Arsenal, utd, Liverpool, Newcastle
    utd, Arsenal, Newcastle, Chelsea
Other than a consistent utd and Arsenal there's 4 other teams fighting for top 4 right there.

TV revenue has been increasing all the time but the top 6 picture has barely changed.

We were talking top 4 mate, and once in 7 years is a simple fact. Your noses were pushed out of the trough by City.

    But the post you actually replied to was this one mate;

No we weren't. We were talking top 6. Original point was its harder to break into top 6 (on a consistent basis) than it is to move from 11th to 7th like Koeman has done with you guys.

Of ffs, you and I were originally talking top 6, I'd moved it on to the top 4, hence my post which JB responded to. <doh>

it's hard to maintain consistency within a league awash with cash, as Chelsea and United proved last season and you've done in the last 7 years.

The margins are even smaller now, the wealthiest clubs that still buy the very best players, but the rest can now buy players who aren't far off that level and the league has become more competitive throughout as a result

So you reckon Koeman will get you top 4 easily as he's gone from 11-7 so 7-3rd?

Of course not, and I've never said anything of the sort.

However, I have pointed out that both what Leicester did last season and what you've done so far this, means that there's no glass ceiling either - it can be done.

But as Leicester have shown this season to continually get into top 6 is a struggle... as West Ham and saints have also shown in recent years.
