£92,000 we got for him I think Cambstiger, his back had gone at that point as centre half's, were, shall we say more fierce than those in a similar positon in today's football. But there had been rumours, although I'm not sure of the details now but Brian Clough wanted Waggy, and Chilton at one point but of course it never happened, but also because City played in the old 3rd Division neither Chilton or Wagstaff got picked for an England cap even though they were the most prolific goal machine in the whole Football League. I think Chilton got picked for an 'England 11' but not a full England cap, of course it could be argued that with the likes of Jimmy Greaves, Geoff Hurst, Martin Peters, Peter Osgood, Alan Clark, Bobby Charlton, and many others, England were well served with forwards.
According to the historic value calculator, it would be £1,515,282.00, but that obviously takes no account of football inflation, which has gone through the roof.
You right about Chilton getting picked for a England 11 it was the late 60's on a tour of Australasian, I maybe wrong but I have a feeling Waggy was also picked for that tour.
I still remember Garry Parker as the best player I ever saw play for City. It was a long time ago though and memories get blurred. In fact that team was the only one I enjoyed watching more than the Joyce/Whittle/Whitney/Brabin etc.team the did the great Escape.
I'm sure that Waggy was picked as well. Best strike pairing in the business but as not playing for a top tier team got overlooked for England. Also, there were some great individuals around but nothing as potent as that partnership.
