This thread is to discuss the merits of 2 players often compared (although very different). I was in no way suggesting that they were the best players ever. The BBC has an article on this subject and I thought an apt way to mark Lampard's retirement, was to revisit this hoary old chestnut one last time. Our opportunity to do so when both were no longer players, to see views in retrospect, rather than discussing whether they should both play for England. On a side note, Gerrrard nearly signed for Mourinho at Chelsea once, any views on how he would have played them, what he would have done differently to a succession of England managers who failed to get the best out of either.
Gerrard would have fitted into any team, especially that Chelsea team and it would still have been a successful team, Gerrard's stats would still be just as impressive as they were at Pool. If Lampard was at Pool I don't think his stats would have been as impressive at the end of his career as they were and I also believe Pool would not have won the trophies they did if they had Lampard and not Gerrard.
Not so sure ... Lamps had a very impressive goals to games ratio in every team he played in... not just for Chelsea ... personally I think his goal threat would have improved ANY team he played in ...
Would have improved any team yes but I don't think his own stats would have been as impressive. Football is a team game ultimately and the quality of the other players around you certainly contributes to your own success.
I love this fat frank thing. It is so bizarre, he carried a little bit in his early days, but I would have liked to have his physique over the last 10 years.
The FA's geneticists have now got involved and they have taken stems cells from Lampard, Beckham and Gerrard in an attempt to create the 'perfect' composite future midfield maestro ... not quite gone to plan ... so far they've got a fat kid, prone to excess grooming, who keeps falling over I'll get my coat ...
