This is incredibly depressing news. Hopefully we haven't seen the last of VVD in a Saints shirt. Maybe, if we look on the bright side... it might mean we keep him for another season. I'd be comfortable with Maya and Stephens for the final or even Maya and Gardos but Gardos and Stephens doesn't bear thinking about....
But isn't Puel the new Tinkerman? I've heard rumours that Forster is pretty good with his feet... may explain why we loaned that new GK.
No, but it would have been less of an issue if Virgil was still available with Stephens and Gardos as back ups. I just don't get the idea that we didn't try to get a CB...how many players were available at a level we wanted....there being no point in signing someone that you'd rank behind Gardos anyway. It had to be someone that would push Maya. January is a pig of a month to sign anyone and Saints apparently thought they had someone lined up, but he turned out to be injured....Virgil could be back before he was available. Time ran out.....you can't knit a CB....not what the board wanted, anymore than fans do. It is what it is.
