"The Ipswich Town boss has confirmed Ivar Ingimarsson will miss the first home match of the season after injuring his thigh in training on Monday.

And fellow centre back Damien Delaney is facing a race against time as he struggles to overcome his ankle injury.

This leaves Jewell with just one fit central defender, Smith, 21, and 20-year-old Ainsley, a right-back by trade – with time running out on a new defender being brought in before Saturday.

Speaking at this morning’s press conference, Jewell said: “The back four won’t be the same on Saturday. Ivar is out, but Damien is a tough character. Hopefully he will do a bit of training this morning.”

If our strikers are on form, looks like we could give this back four a bit of a rough time. Just hope we can put the ball in the back of the net!

I think the best approach at Ipswich is to flood the midfield.

I would play 4-5-1 and try to stop them from scoring. Then push on in the last quarter of the game. Ipswich are a confidence side. Once they get up a head of steam with their crowd behind them, there's no stopping them. But if we can keep a clean sheet their heads will drop and the crowd will go silent. Then we might cause their defence a few problems as the game stretches in the last quarter.

Looking at the Ipswich board, the 2 young centre backs played in the Cup on Tuesday when they shipped 3(?) against L2 opposition. They are concerned about their defence

I doubt many would agree with me, but I'd think about replacing Fryatt with Simpson. He has more pace so if you're playing a counter-attacking 4-5-1 it would be better to have a pacy frontman. I know Simpson has missed a few sitters, but Fryatt refuses to shoot at the moment.

right now I'd take a point, but give Brady the ball at every opportunity, once we get a goal we'll be OK

our first choice central defensive partner shamefully shipped 2 against lowly L2 opposition. Are you confident about ours?

I don't think they'll be good enough to keep a clean sheet against Ipswich, but that wasn't the point I was making. If Ipswich play their inexperienced centre back pairing our striker(s) may get a few opportunities to get off the mark this season

ps, although I wasn't at the Macc game, weren't the goals more the fault of the full backs than the CB's?

I'm not reading too much into the Macclesfield game, the same night 5 teams got beat from the Championship by League 2 teams so that tells it's own story. We should have beat Blackpool, we didn't, let's move on to Ipswich and take it from there UTT!

I think its obvious if we had signed Ayala, he would play him and put Chester in front of the back four. Then Mckenna and Evans, play negativiely and hope Matty nicks a goal.
But we dont have Ayala plus NP has started to play a more expansive game with Brady and the inclusion of TC. It will be interesting to see if NP persists with an attacking formation against Ipswich.

I suppose your right with that. The first goal came from a long huff upfield, then Basso ran out, then decided to run back to his goal which meant that Sinclair(He was really quick) lastched on to it, and slotted away.

Both goals was Basso's faults, both went underneath him. It made me think Gulcasi was alright!

could be that Danny East played the young Emile Heskey on side for the second goal, however, Hobbs was at fault for the first. In fact, on both goals Hobbs spent too much time waving his arms about aimlessly and winging at the lino. Hobbs must bear at least part of the blame for both goals

The young Emile Heskey? The lad scored 2 so can't see the similarity :emoticon-0102-bigsm

As I say, I wasn't there but from the (very) brief lowlights I saw on SSN I thought for the 1st he got in behind Daws? Was Hobbs waving his arms trying to get Daws into position?

Holloway said that ian Evatt had not travelled to Hull. Guess what ? He played @ the KC.

It could be the old 2 step but i would like DD to play as he wont be the same with a dodgy ankle.

I would agree with that except SIMPSON for Fryatt. JS scored there last year and MF is way off the required standard at present. Useful sub though.
