So Doble is heading on loan to Bournemouth, could be a brilliant move for the youngster if he can get some much needed playing time there. I definitely think he has talent, just needs some time on the pitch to build his confidence. Also, noticed that at the end of the article it mentions Forecast moving on loan to Blue Square South side Thurrock I bet the club wait to get rid of the disgrace of a footballer, terrible both on and off the pitch IMO.
Good news about both these moves - Doble should do well at Bournemouth, that's the perfect place for him to go and play some football. Forecast deserves to be in the lower leagues, he's not that good and he's a complete idiot
Loan move could be good for Doble, because, although we want to keep him, he won't get too many games for us. Time we moved Forecast on, so let's hope he does well at Thurrock. Goalkeepers are always a problem. What decent goalie wants to be third choice at Southampton and yet, if they aren't decent, what's the point of having them. Probably better to promote a promising youngster or have a good goalie/coach near the end of his career. I suspect that Saints plan to use Kelvin as coach one day.
How long til Thurrock send Forecast back do you reckon? Whenever I see his or Pulis' names, I cant help but be reminded of a certain ... [NSFW]Rupert Lowe [/NSFW]
You can't simply move players on if there is no one that wants them (or if they do want them, don't have the money to pay their wages). Put yourself in Forecast's position, he signed a 5 year contract, I very much doubt he'll get paid what he gets at Saints anywhere else for the rest of his career. His personal life & mortgage is probably all in relation to his current wages. He's not alone in being a footballer in limbo who are on long contracts, but don't play much, if at all, for his club. Some players come to an agreement to leave clubs early and wave their right to compensation on their contract, but usually they have another club lined up. If Saints were to end his contract early, they'd have to pay him compensation. Money we could use elsewhere. It is a balancing act for the club, but I can't believe he's a problem to the club off the pitch as Adkins & Cortese wouldn't stand for that. So I think this mini-witchhunt some fans have with him based upon nothing more than internet gossip is a bit sad & unnecessary.
I understand all that but if we were to cancel his contract now (I believe he still has two years reamining?) then the compensation fee would be less than the cost of his wages for the next two years and it would enable him to move on and try and find another club. I think you are just sticking up for the underdog tbh. I've had the displeasure of meeting Forecast in Bedford Place on a few nights out and while I have not witnessed the alledged punching of a girl incident or the swearing at kids behind the goal-line in pre-season friendlies; he definitely came of as an arrogant pr*ck. I've seen him play both for the first team and reserves and I don't think he's cut out for the football league and his loan move to Thurrock supports this view.
Don't you have to pay contracts up in full, unless both the club and player want to break the contract.
Good Luck Doble, hopefully be playing in the first team in couple of years. As for Forecast, when does his contract run out?
I see normal service has been resumed, with us trying to help our hard up Boscombe neighbours. Perhaps their fans will stop trying to bite the hand that is offered in freindship??
If Saints were to cancel his contract without Forecast's consent, it would be unfair dismissal and the club would end up involved in a court case to resolve it. Forgive me for taking the usual "I've seen him out in town" story with a massive pinch of salt. Funny how these stories only ever appear in connection with players that are either leaving the club or are generally not in the first team? I have no problem with saying he's not up to the job as a keeper. Thought that from almost day one on the back of what Spurs fans said about him. It was clearly another one of Lowe's bloody stupid deals and part of the settlement of the Gareth Bale transfer that we took him. But god only knows why he was given a 5 year contract by Lowe. Although I wouldn't put it past him to have done it on purpose (bit like the Pulis one) just to mess around whoever it was who took over the boardroom.
Not overly bothered about Forecast because hopefully we won't need him, though we did bring that young goalie in from Arsenal last year.
You most certainly do. If the club lets him go they would also have to pay average bonuses as well, all that kind of thing simply because of his contract. It is not a cheap option. That is just the last probable baggage left over from the Lowe era.
