So with Pieters likely to arrive we have our replacement left back for Enrique. However he is injury prone, so what happens if he gets injured again? As much as I rate Ferguson I rate him as a winger and wouldn't be comfortable if he had to play a few months at left back and don't get me started on Perch and Raylor!

However nobody will want to sign as second choice left back and we need another CB. Bassong is available and can challenge Coloccini, Saylor and Williamson for CB and provide much needed cover at LB. He is 25 years old and will be available for £4 million (apparently). Surely it's a no brainer!

Who else thinks we should sign him?

Would you be happy with the summer so far if we sold Enrique and signed Pieters, Bassong and a new striker?

I'd be very happy with Bassong but I doubt 'arry would let a player of that quality leave for such a low fee

I think also its an absolute no brainer. I don't care if people say he jumped ship when we were relegated. He left and never had a bad word to say about us. I would welcome him back with open arms and think he would be a great signing!!!

They are trying to raise funds to sign Samba, he has been offered to Blackburn in a player plus cash deal but Bassong isn't keen on moving to blackburn so looks unlikely

Lacks moral fibre, bottled it when we were in the dogfight then did the off once we'd gone down. Pieters does same job fb/cb, will probably cost less than Bassong.

I know but this is the same manager who was trying to make a profit on Kranjcar after barely playing him and thinking Pavlyuchenko is worth £14m... Still, at £4m he'd be an absolute steal so most certainly yes

What's wrong with signing both? We need two new defenders IMO

But why have 2 that do exactly the same role? And 2 defenders = no new striker, only 1 place left in 25 man squad.

Definately would have him back as cover/competition for CB but think we unlikely to pay that much for a cover player or that Arry will let him go for that. As for playing him at LB i wasnt impressed with him playing several times for us there last time he was here and we ended up relegated often playing people out of their natural position at the back. Sir Bobbys policy always seemed to be that its a simple game, play players in their correct positions. Often an average player can do better in his natural position than a good one playing out of position and keep drifting.
Yes if we sold Jose but signed Pieters and also signed a good striker i would be quite happy and Bassong or someone similar would be a bonus. Like Joey to stay or a replacement i.e. Barnetta signed too.
As for Perch whilst i agree for me he can go and he was poor last season remember hes a young lad at a new club playing premier league football for the first time in an average team with an average defence. IF he stays i say give the boy a chance, i cant understand why he seems to be hated so much,a bit out of proportion i think.

As has been posted multiple times, we dont have to register every player over 21 in the squad, as it stands Xisco and Perch wont be included, neither have featured pre-season for the 1st team so arn't in Pardews plans

Don't want Bassong I must admit. Him and Martins were supposedly a disgrace in the background at the infamous LO game. Basically didn't want to be here which you can understand but he should have still had respect for the club and its supporters. If we get rid of Enrique and replace him with Pieters I'd be happy with that. I'd like to see Kadar given more of a chance this year if we are down to the bare bones. More at centre back but he can provide cover for Pieters.

Seems unrealistic as we are short of cash and his wages will be a lot higher than when he left! A 4m fee and high wages are an absolutely no no for the current ownership. We will hopefully reinvest the Enrique money in Pieters. After that I think we all hope a quality striker will come in who will cost 8-10m if he is any use so that you'd imagien would be us done. We may not even get the striker.

Would be happy with Bassong but would he get in the team ahead of Tayls? That would give us the same CB pairing that took us down last time but granted they have both improved. If he is gonna be back up surely he'd rather be backup at Spurs who are a good side than here.

I would argue that.. he was probably our best player in the relegation season! Would love him back.

Kadar can play CB or LB, so just play him if Pardew sees Fergie as a winger.
