I've taken the day off work to sit in front of sky sports news all day and cheer every transfer with a party popper. The excitement may just be too much.

Jeremy Wilson has this update from what looks like being a busy day at Southampton:

Southampton are preparing for the absence of Virgil van Dijk for the League Cup final against Manchester United by signing Serdar Tasci on loan from Spartak Moscow as part of a trio of deadline day signings.

The most expensive and eye-catching deal is striker Manolo Gabbiadini for a potential £16million club record fee from Napoli and they are also working to bring in goalkeeper Mouez Hassen on loan from Nice. The arrival of Tasci, a 29-year-old Germany international, is especially telling in terms of Van Dijk’s chances of playing in the club’s first major Wembley final since 1979.

Southampton have not wanted to reveal the severity of Van Dijk’s injury until after the transfer window closes but it is understood that there is no expectation of him returning for next month’s United match. Tasci, as well as Gabbiadini, would be available in the League Cup. Tasci, who is out of contract this summer, had been lined up by Southampton as the replacement to Jose Fonte following the former captain’s decision to join West Ham United. Southampton might have waited until the summer to recruit Tasci but the severity of Van Dijk’s injury has made them suggest a loan deal.

Gabbiadini will cost an initial £14million but, with add-ons, could get past the club record £16million fee that was paid last year for Sofiane Boufal. The 25-year-old has won six Italy caps but has not started a Serie A match since November. He will have a medical at Southampton today.

With Charlie Austin’s shoulder injury expected to keep him out for another three months, the addition of a striker was one of the priorities this month for Claude Puel. The new manager is also determined to keep Jay Rodriguez, who is wanted by West Bromwich Albion. Hassan has been targeted as back-up to goalkeeper Fraser Forster following injury to Alex McCarthy.

Not sure Tasci is the answer seems a bit of a bizaare signing hes nearly 30 cant get in spartaks team and currently injured

 

New rumours of Spuds coming in for JRod as well. They can keep their grabby mitts off.

It annoys me the statements like "out of favour" or "outcast" when referring to Rodriguez. He's not played as much as he might because of injury. He's returning to form for a side that is lacking goals. Why the hell is he an outcast? Shows how little research these "journalist" do.

He's played over 50 times for Spartak in two and a bit seasons and they offered him a new contract, so he can't be that bad.

Virgil was playing in Scotland (pre-Rangers return) so let's see.

 

Yoshi and Stephens are our prime pair of CBs, but would be mad not to have another CB as a back up or for use in rotation.

 

Just got 40 quid on saints to make 3 or more signings at 4/1 (Loan deals do count)
