What about when they make it to earth and it's dark? Would need light in the same reason any other flying object would.. to see where it's going.
Clearly they'd use radar while travelling and then lights once make t into our atmosphere and need to have a gander outside to see best landing spot.

Planes have lights in order to be seen, not in order to see. Admittedly at the moment of landing a quick flash might be handy, but not when you're whizzing about doing alieny stuff.
