West Ham were just waiting to get their replacement first I'd imagine. this was always going to happen.

Just look at the media storm when Bilic announced that Payet was playing up...how disgusting etc etc
However when on an annual basis our players do it in order to force through their clandestine transfer (usually to Liverpool), the Saints just get criticised for selling their best players
    Strange double standards...LOL

There's certain clubs (west ham and liverpool to name 2) who the media will love and favour no matter what. Can't do anything wrong.

Can't believe I've agreed with something David Sullivan has written, but here goes... Statement from WHU:

    Joint-chairman David Sullivan

The club would like to place on record its sincere disappointment that Dimitri Payet did not show the same commitment and respect to West Ham United that the club and fans showed him, particularly when it rewarded him with a lucrative new five-and-a-half-year deal only last year.

I would like to make it clear that we have no financial need to sell our best players and that the decision to allow Payet to leave was in accordance with the wishes of the manager and the interests of squad unity. To be frank, my board and I would have preferred for him to have stayed in order to make an example of him, as no player is bigger than the club.

I am confident that with the quality of the players we have brought in during January already, the squad will be stronger at the end of this transfer window than it was at the start.

There have been moments when I wish Saints had told it like it is. Perhaps we're just too damn nice.

An interesting update on Dimitri Payet's sale to Marseille.

Sky sources understand West Ham forced him to pay back his January salary before they let him move.

Payet is paid £125,000 a week and West Ham’s stance cost him £500,000.

Last year, Payet signed a five-year contract worth £125,000 a week and he was also given a £1m loyalty bonus in September. (SKY)

Hmmm...so pay another £25 and we will give you a new shirt. Not the best offer I've ever seen. I wonder how many there are and how much it would cost the club to just replace them. More than £500k?

Yeah and they get to clear their warehouse of old kit that will be redundant next season (assuming they release a new shirt each year).

Most probably. Clubs got to get that cash while trying to look like a good guy.

Quite an interesting one this. Compare how we handled Fonte's exit with West Ham and Payet. Obviously there are differences such as Fonte being far from our best player and the fact Fonte never refused to play or train.

But both situations involved a player who wanted out and made sure they got it. Saints have sold the player, put out a brief statement saying they wish him well and that is the end of that - no media **** storm.

West Ham however seem intent on dragging it out and criticising the player in some sort of witch hunt. Whether it be the owners son calling him a snake, releasing the information that they made him pay them 500k or now Brady's tweet aiming to rid the stadium of any Payet shirts. Quite frankly the WHU approach is rather embarrassing and scream of bitterness.

I know which way I'd rather my club handle it.

    All heart that Brady.
Would've been better (and great PR) if the club had made it a condition of his move that he replace, at his cost, all shirts returned. Not just grabbed back half a mill for themselves.
