This. And I said that too. We needed to assess the situation on the day. The Saturday game became a "Must not lose" one after Wednesday and in the light of that the selection did not make sense. There are weakened sides and there are reserve/second string sides. For us it was the latter, no matter how people here argued that that there were enough senior players to win. We played our second string and got punished for taking liberties.

I am sure Jurgen will not repeat this mistake again. The silver lining is that there won't be any need to rest our key players again this season. And this focus on the premiership may ultimately save our top 4 position when all others are distracted with cup games here and abroad.

I'd take CL. Not because of money etc but because I love the midweek evening games and I love watching against the best teams in the world.

    Long term > short term

<ok> This is where the frustration is coming from.

I'm sure it affected the whole atmosphere inside Anfield as well, we had just lost the last 2 home games and that line up is announced.

Concede in the 1st minute and what characters are on the pitch to calm things down and pick us back up? None.

On the plus side, Karius is looking a better keeper now, and Migs has improved dramatically.

any side conceding a shed load of changes will make their keeper look good.

its when they have one thing to go do a game and their fail that they look bad.

Both players came form lower teams who let in shed loads of goals and chances and they only needed to save 5 a game and they were heros.

I'm not looking at them being any great shakes.

I thought Karius played well on Wednesday. He looked better than Forster, imo, and he had no chance with their late goal that Long finished expertly. He maybe could have come for Wolves first (?), but our whole back line (and the stupid lino who let them take it ten yards further up the pitch) were to blame for that. He had diddly with Wolves second, and I was thankful he didn't foul him and get sent off.

I looked at that a few times and I'm not sure he would have got there (what with the scorer being offside an' all <whistle>)

the wolves second goal he went with his feet. in truth he'd little chance ever but he was a bit useless there.

no that long finish is just what you'd expect really and once that exposed by stupidity he can't be expected to top it really.

forester is a **** keeper of the tim krul variety.

In what way is losing effective squad management? :)
No matter how you phrase it, we didn't take the cup seriously enough to play a strong enough team to ensure a win and that's really the point being made.
We've decided that everything has to be jettisoned in order to give ourselves the best chance in the league, but we've also admitted that we just can't cope with the prospect of more than one game per week.

OR you could do what he did with coutinho and firmino in giving them an hour on the pitch more.

There no way CBs need games off.. especially not v wolves and swansea and even southampton never mind plymouth.

Lovren was rested which i find hilarious.

the reality is he could have bene making earlier subs in several games before christmas knowing this is the time of year where the games come AND now he's for 4 months of drudgery and boredom to come.

I think he's right in what he's saying though. Basically, fans are never happy and a manager can never win (unless they actually win of course)

Edit: although some on here would still moan if we won the quad <laugh>
