Saw Sky's comment about the new Trainspotting sequel and got me wondering if any film sequels are actually any better than the original ? Usually the second serving leaves a taste of dissatisfaction and a feeling of being cheated, and wishing that they'd never bothered to make the film. But are there any exceptions ? The only one I can think off of the top of my head is Terminator 2. Any more ?
Good thread....wouldn't say it was better but certainly lived up to the high standards set by the Original, I mean the Rocky films, until they got to Rocky 5, that was embarrassing. Predator2 was just as epic as Predator.
I remember going to see Rocky IV at the cinema with my mates, I must have been 11 or 12 at the time. The whole cinema was packed with young lads and was literally rocking and cheering out loud at Rocky beating Drago It was probably really ****, but I have fond memories of that film
Torn on this one. Empire strikes back is a brilliant film, but for me the first Star Wars just edges it.
It was far from ****, mental soundtrack and just a bad ass film if you were a young bwai growing up back then. 'Yatse bia, Yatse bia, Yatse biaaaaa' 'if he dies, he dies!' Shadow boxing to some Eye of the Tiger ****, them were the days Piskie lad.
The Original 3 were inseparable for me. The new batch have been good in patches. Some good scenes but the calibre of enemy in the Dark Side has dwindled, which is to be expected when the original Gangsta Darth Vadar set such high standards. I'm glad he's back to his meanest best in Rogue 1.
Aliens, Terminator 2, Empire Strikes Back, Clerks 2......probably the only ones I can think of. People often say that the Godfather Part II is better than the first as well, they are wrong but it is still often said. Love all the Rocky films. 5 is easily the worst but I still like it and will watch it if it is on. As for my favourite, too hard to pick from the first 4, love 4 because it has the best soundtrack and training montage. HEARTS ON FIRE, STRONG DESIRE, RAGES DEEP WITHIN!!
I genuinely can't think of one. Rocky was the best Rocky film. Jaws was easily the best of the Jaws films. Star Wars were as bad/good as each other, depending on your viewpoint. (the original three I mean. Everything after might as well not exist they are so ****) The first Lord of the Rings is the best of the three. I've never seen the Hobbit ones to comment. Godfather part 2 maybe? Although as Stan says, part 1 is very good anyway so probably they're on a par. **** knows, if I'm honest.
