Has Jeff Schlupp proved that he can score enough goals to get a place in the starting 11 or at least a chance from the bench?

Looks as tho he has a good footballing head on his shoulders to poach some chances other strikers wouldn't see.

With Vassell out for 3 (is it 3?) games, this is the time where he can make a real impact.

I think we're getting a bit carried away about Schlupp. Yes he scored a very good hat-trick and he's got a big future ahead but to hail him as the answer to all our striking problems is premature based on one performance vs a League 2 side. I would start him against Reading but I wouldn't pin him down as our main striker for the season - he hasn't earned the right yet. We should let him develop at his own pace instead of thrusting him into the limelight as the spearhead of a team challenging for the Premier League.

Is only 18 and has never played at this level - don't want to overburden the lad by making him our main striker.

Let him grow (both physically and mentally) and use him as a supersub when the opposition is knackered.

from what sven has said in the mercury he may well go out on loan. I'm guessing that will depend on how our search goes for a striker

No. He's proved he is ready to push for a place in the first team. He deserves a place on the bench on Saturday. He's an option for a starting place simply because we don't have hardly anyone up front at the moment.

Definitely should be on the bench, wouldn't complain if he started, but we shouldn't all of a sudden expect him to get a load of goals and be our main striker.

Right Schlupp scored a hat trick against a League 2 side. We need to calm down he isnt ready for first team at this level yet. But he is ready to play a role for us this season. If any of our current strikers are good enough to hit 20 then its David Nugent.

Did anyone see the goals! The header and the 3rd around the keeper were great finishes! He is ready now! Agreed he shouldnt play 40+ games but the home games wouldn't be a bad start?

The best he can be for this season is a squad player and in a year or 2 he will be ready for first team if he carries on progressing. Sven will know what he is doing

Simple give him enough time on the pitch & see how he develops, we´ll see soon enough. Remember some players called....erm.... Joachim, Heskey & Lineker ? they were all young & ...well... the rest is LCFC history is´nt it.

In fairness, to those saying it was league 2 opposition - he also got 6 in 10 against League 1 opposition, which is a better thing to go one than one game.

Personally I don't think he's quite ready to lead the line, however there's no reason to say he's definitely not, stick him on the bench, bring him on for at least 20 minutes and see if he surprises us further.

Schlupp is yet to play against a championship side so before we build him up we need to wait and see how he copes in this league. Sven will know if he good enough and will know if he best off here or out on loan. I think he may end up at Charlton with Chris Powell as they was linked with a loan move a few weeks ago

Schlupp deserves a place in the team more then Howard, Vassell and Waghorn at the minute. I think Nugent should start on saturday with Schlupp on the bench

Why can't he be our 20 goal a season striker?

He has played 11 competitive games and scored 9 goals.

Hardly a bad return even by League one standards <ok>

Perhaps we should offer a year-long loan for Schlupp as part of a deal for Maynard. Then Bristol C have a promising striker for a year, and they can spend the £5 on improving their leaky defense, whilst Schlupp will get valuable experience at a club who aren't banking everything on promotion. I think that would suit everyone.

We've already supposedly offered them Waghorn, but as they've said time and time again, they don't need strikers, it's not an incentive for them.

Besides, I wouldn't ant to loan him out for a whole season, I think he'll have a part to play at some point.

To be fair, at the moment I'd rather have Schlupp for a year than Waggy on a perm! And remember, if it's defenders BC need, Schlupp can also play fullback!

Regarding us using Schlupp - I won't want us to put too much pressure on the lad - we really have to get promoted this year. This way, we can see how Schlupp manages in the Championship whilst bringing in a tried and tested striker.

Can't we do both here? We do need to bring in another striker but that striker will not be the only one expected to get goals and contribute in an attacking sense. I think we can forget about Waggy and Howard, so atm it's Nugent, Vassell (suspended), Schlupp and hopefully a new striker (not signed as yet) as our striking options. Even with those 4 it wouldn't hurt to bring another one in. We are not asking the world of Schlupp this season, but if he can put in some impressive performances from the bench he may eventually force his way into the starting 11, who knows? He might play an important part for us this season

As for Schlupp's chances - we do need to get promoted this season, but the Premier League is another step up in class, and if we do go up, we would need a tried and tested striker there as well, so how does he get a look in then? It will be even harder for him to make an impact after promotion. I think now is his best chance of breaking into the team, Sven has always stressed the need for competition in the squad, if Schlupp is beginning to look like he might step up to the plate, why shut the door on him, even if it is for the time being? Even when we bring our main striker in, there's nothing to suggest Schlupp wouldn't be the first choice sub.

We've seen even with money that it's difficult to bring in the players we want, so I wouldn't be loaning out Schlupp just yet. He may very well be a gem in the class of Gradel, King or even Heskey. We'll never know if we don't give him a real chance.

Leicester City will not be signing a new striker until next week at the very earliest.
