By the time I had done the laces up on those, the tide would have come in.

The Missus has got a Mk 3 Fiat Panda. I love it. It's like driving a cross between a dodgem car and an IKEA Billy bookcase. If you corner too fast it changes shape and becomes a rhombus. It's got the lightest steering in the world and comes complete with a so called City Button, the function of which appears to be to make the steering even lighter.

    And it's bright red.

Downside is that she refuses to put it in the garage, which is a tad embarrassing.

Are they OK? My Mrs wants one. She's seen one online & wants to look at it, it's white.

She showed me it, I told her to look at diesels, maybe a Fiesta. cheaper tax & more mpg.

She started looking at some & told me I was talking bollocks. Handing me her IPad.

"This one's a diesel & only does 8.8miles per gallon."

"That's the distance from our house you dozy ****er, it says 8.8 miles"

    Still wants the Fiat.

    She'll win.

Park it on the street with the windows open. It'll be full of rubble and Christmas wrapping by the morning.

Isn't the panda a fiesta in disguise. Petrol is the new diesel.

She's got a Ka at the minute, I'm trying to convince her that a Fiesta is an upgrade. It is, but a Fiat??

    I'll give that a go.

If nothing else, it'll probably improve its cornering.

Much as it always cheers me up when I drive it, if I was seriously recommending a City runabout for a sophisticated lady of a certain age, I would be unlikely to start with a Mk3 Fiat Panda.

My mate has a fiesta and so does my brother in law, they are cuffed with the things. I drove my mates to Ghent, when we played Lockren. It was fine. But I can't get on with the panda

Even pandas don't get on with pandas, that's why there's so few pandas...

My wife's old boss had a Jaguar of the same colour. She often brought it home after dropping him at the airport when he went on interstate and overseas trips.

She wouldn't let me drive it though! Had to settle for my Triumph Spitfire.

Mrs A drives a 12 year old Punto. She does about 1000m per year to and from work. Freaks out if she has to venture from that furrowed path. I still think its so she'll never be expected to drive home from the pub. She refuses to even think about changing her Punto. To be fair, never had an MOT or repair costing more than a ton. She does have the knack of choosing great value cars, and its based purely on colour. I'll ask her to send your missus a colour chart if you want Ben.

Love that story Askew, ''purely based on colour'' is how my Mrs chooses cars; about 15 years ago she saw a metallic, mustard coloured Punto, we had to have one. Spent weeks hunting and found one 50 miles away, some kind of sport jobbie with an extra gear (don't ask) I hated it when I drove it but the colour was perfect. Long story short, it was a ****ing nail, I knew it would be but, it was pointless arguing. My only saving grace, the wife drinks once every other Sheffield flood, meaning I never have to drive from the pub!
