I thank him profusely for his work with us. I loved him whilst he was here, committed and our captain. Then he decided to be a d*** and ended up at Wet Spam. Get a grip people.

Catching up on all the Barry Manolo stuff, I appreciate that we desperately need attackers, but when we were first linked many people seemed to be a bit luke warm about his prowess. Do we think he's the business now or just desperate to get new blood in with the hope he is amazing?

Speaking of "amazing" good to see the very likeable Billy Sharp has racked up 18 goals already this season for Sheffield ...........................

 

Don't remind me about Billy....that was one of my blackest days. A rare occasion when I was ashamed of Saints. Does anyone really think that we couldn't have used Billy Sharp over the last few seasons.

As mentioned, Sunderland interested. A major thing in our armoury is that the player reportedly is happy with his deal.....take quite an offer for a switch now...I think.

 

Yes. He is not good enough for the premier league so it would have been pointless for us to keep him sat on the bench.

Look at him now. Smashing in goals during a promotion campaign for the club he supported as a boy and came through their academy.

I think this way has worked out better for both parties.

 

Di Marzio ( and tbe people that work for him) is the only person to listen to on Italian deals. He has not mentioned Sunderland atm.

 

The cynical part of me (which is 95% of me) thinks there must be another reason why Napoli have been stalling this long, like they have had talks over him with other clubs and are hoping that someone else comes in and bids. I get that they know we are desperate and a PL club so are trying to squeeze out a few more £, but we are not the only team who are looking at strikers this window, Napoli obviously know that and are hoping for say Sunderland/Watford to come in and bid more

 

Watford bought Niang. The Napoli president is just very hard to negotiate with according to a person that works with Di Marzio.

 

And how much of it was it him/his partner wanting to get back home? Even for highly paid footballers Southampton is a long way South for a Yorkshire lad. I'm enjoying watching him do so well.

There are others who were treated as "badly" as Billy Sharp. Hammond was treated shabbily in my view. And can we recall it was Adkins who was involved in these quick exits for players? Living and dying by the sword is the name of the game in a multi-million pound business.

 

Yeah I saw they got Niang on loan with an option to buy of £18m. Think we should've been all over that rather than Gabiadini but we'll see.

 

That is a short sighted view tbh, we have obviously done alot of scouting and research into this player and deem him good enough to come here and improve.
So should we sell him after 2 / 3 seasons Napoli would be in line for more than €2Million.

True he is in the Balotelli mould but then I'd love to see Balotelli in a Saints shirt so I'm probably in the minority. People forget aswell that Niang is only 22 and did brilliantly playing centrally for Bologna I think it was, he isn't very good out wide and in today's market I think Milan have ****ed up letting him go relatively cheaply

 

How much freedom did the Don give to Adkins...poor old Nigel's card was marked the moment we got promoted....and he knew it judging by his wistful face during the celebrations.

 

My point exactly. There's no love in business. Not sure he knew, but he would have suspected. Cortese's granny probably feels insecure when he's around.

 

Where I come from we call that a "long screwdriver". Basically higher level management prodding around in other people's areas. It's pretty universally accepted as bad, partly because they don't understand the detail but also because of the total lack of trust. Cortese doesn't get anything like as much criticism for signing Ramirez and Osvaldo as he deserved.

It's quite popular to accuse Les of this too when we lose, generally not followed with any evidence though. This is why he doesn't sack the manager just because we lost two home games.

 

That's bizarre. My post is the furthest from short sighted possible. Desperate to sign him and get it done is more short term.

Also, for Napoli to get £3m, on 10% we'd need to sell at £30m, like I said. To get more we'd need to sell at even higher. Not sure you've understood my point really.

How many of our signings do you think have not had lots of scouting and research? They don't all work out and get sold for £30m
