Janssen hasn't benefited from being drafted into the side to play in front of some pretty disappointing supporting '3's. Against Villa I felt he was made into a bit of a scapegoat, when in truth we were slow and predictable going forward throughout the team. I think the fact that he was replaced by a midfielder (Alli) when it was 0-0 didn't do his reputation (or confidence) any favours. It became quite easy for people to point a finger and say: 'look, we became much more threatening once Janssen was hauled off'. I'd like to think that the more astute fans realised that it was the introduction of some pace and craft through Alli & GKN that turned the game, not necessarily Janssen's removal. Until he gets the same level of service Kane gets every week, it will be extremely hard to truly see what he is capable of. Games like Wycombe at home are going to be few and far between for the rest of the season (this might be IT in all likelihood...); let's give him a full 90 minutes and a proper supporting cast. It's a shame Lamela is out as I actually think that the two of them would complement eachother nicely.
I'd just like to see him on the pitch with N'Koudou on Saturday. A few decent balls from the wing and he might stay in the box more and get on the end of some of them.
I still can't understand how, barring a few minutes against CSKA, Janssen and GKN have never been on the pitch together at the same time as GKN looks like the exact sort of player who can feed Janssen crosses all day, which will be a massive boost to his confidence while also giving GKN more than the cameos he's had so far. Also, is it worth letting Lopez take the free kicks for this one?
It's unfortunate for wycombe that spurs are redeveloping the stadium otherwise wycombe could have had double the amount of tickets and would have sold out but that's football.I know of wycombe fans that were outside the ground from 830 this morning waiting for 2 hours only to be told all tickets were sold when they got anywhere the ticket office
I've seen a number of reliable sources stating that Toby will be out for no more than another week. He is expected to be back in the match day squad for the Sunderland game, but there is a chance he'll start from the bench as an added precaution. If needs be, I think we'll cope with Dier and Wimmer for one game and switch to a back 4. No point in rushing him back with the trip to Anfield coming up.
I wouldn't necessarily say that's entirely accurate mate, there's only been three games in which Janssen has had makeshift supporting trios and in all of those he was up against weaker opposition (Gillingham, a makeshift Pool and Villa). All other games he's had the likes of Alli/ Eriksen/ Lamela (albeit briefly)/ Son/ Sissoko as guys who were supporting him, plus the odd game alongside Kane, admittedly he's not played 90 minutes in all of those but there's still been a decent amount of time for him barring the last few weeks and yet all he has to show for it is three goals scored from the penalty spot. To an extent I'd agree about Villa, he probably was made to be a scapegoat while the service in the game didn't seem great but sometimes service is only made to look good when the recipient creates space for themselves. Even in that game when Janssen went off and Son went up top, for that second goal Son's movement is what allowed him to score a relatively easy tap in. Tripps and Sissoko done great work down the right, Son halted back his run which lost his marker, therefore giving him a yard of space which Sissoko was able to exploit and then Son slotted home. That's something I don't see Janssen do much, if at all. Too many times he's either ran into opposition CB's, allowed himself to be too tightly marked or just generally not been where we needed him at crucial moments. Even though I'd personally opt for a team that doesn't feature Janssen starting, chances are he will against Wycombe and I hope more than anyone he can bang in a goal or two but if he doesn't, I think I'd sort of be left scratching my head as to what more else can be done for him for this season, it's why I think a loan is more beneficial for him than Josh, especially if Poch continues to leave him out of Prem squads.
Pochettino has to lay down the law to the team and Janssen about how they must play in order to get Janssen scoring. We must be acting with a view to him carrying the attack in whatever FA/Europa cup ties Spurs have for now, so that Kane can be reserved for PL games.
Well Janssen will be leading the line, probably, against Wycombe as Poch has confirmed Kane, Toby and Danny Rose all suffering from niggles that will keep them out of the travellling squad. Good news though, all will be back for Sunderland game apparently
Yeah it looked as though Harry and Toby were training well in Barcelona, so Tuesday against Sunderland should be fine for them to return. I doubt they would've played Saturday even if they were fully fit to be honest, Poch has rotated quite largely in the domestic cups.
Marcus Edwards has returned to training, doubtful he'll be fit to face Wycombe but good news, really excited to see this lad develop. Maybe he could possibly feature in the Europa League ties.
Normally I don't put comments with this, but WTF is the pr*ck asking the first questions ?? Every week at these things, the plank is an utter oxygen thief.
Just in time for his first appearance on the cover of the matchday programme, the Grauniad has an in-depth interview with Harry Winks: https://www.theguardian.com/football/2017/jan/27/harry-winks-spurs-tottenham Yes, I know, the Grauniad remembered we exist...
Reinforces what we've been hearing about the loans and Pochettino's approach to everything. I doubt anyone remembers, but I questioned where all of our nutmegs were coming from a while ago. I thought that it might be something to do with training games and it seems to be true: “We’ve got this new rule – if you get nutmegged three times, you have to sing on an away trip,” Winks says. Everyone must hate going up against Alli!
Because it's the internet, naturally some saddos attempted to troll in the comments section - only to get shut down just as badly as we shut down the Chavs a couple of weeks back... "Imagine the even-bigger buzz he would get if he played for a team that had won the title in the last 55 years or the FA Cup in the last 25." Sure he'd love to be at Blackburn and Aston Villa, but unfortunately he's fighting for 3 trophies at the moment. "People who get a "buzz" from playing for or supporting Tottenham, also get a "buzz" from reading 50 shades of grey" OK, I know we've been dominant in a lot of games this season but that's a bit far. To be fair ive got aroused watching Spurs play plenty of times this season
I can officially rule out a few youngsters from today's squad - because they're playing in an U18 game right now
Was off sick yesterday... still feeling **** but my 19 yr old daughter has come back from uni to go to the match with me and her sister...so no RCL pearls of wisdom today (crap internet in the ground) so here's a few just in case... £30m for Sissoko and he can't play well v Wycombe ??? Winks gives a great interview in the Guardian and then puts in THIS minging performance??? WTF Janssen??? £17m for a striker who needs sat nav to find the goal???? Coys
