Interesting stat between Managers. Steve Bruce in nearly 30 matches as a manager has never beaten Man Utd. It took Marco Silva 2
70/71 and 71/72 were far livelier.Sunderland had a lot of older, and bigger, ones who joined in. Leicester had a good mob. Our away support was **** most of the time. Up to 3,000 or so from Sunderland, Boro, Leicester, Wednesday, Sheff U., quite a few up for it from Burnley, Blackburn, Huddersfield and other"smaller" clubs who regularly came on Bunkers before the barrier was built. We in return took one or two coaches to most of those places, and rarely, except for an ill fated attempt at Blackburn, went on their Kop Ends. Later on we were big fish in a pond at small places and people wrote books how we terrorised everywhere we went.Funniest thing I read was in Tordoff's book about Wednesday thinking twice about coming to Hull again.
So...which games topped Man Utd in 1974? Trouble at plenty of games and against plenty of teams but that day was the high water mark.
Whenever I've watched Maloney play for Scotland he's been brilliant. First thing you notice about the little guy is he's a VERY clever player. He sees runs, he knows when to put the ball into space, and he can really cross the ball with some fizz on it. Too bad he's been hampered by injuries so much of his time with us. When he's fit and gets a chance to play more than a few minutes he can have a real impact. Silva's probably already picked up on that....lets see more of him.
I saw some Boro, Sunderland, Leicester and others in the 1970s I wouldn't have wanted to tangle with on a one to one basis. But that lot, as you said, was numbers and nothing else. please log in to view this image
The west stand was absolutely over run with Man utd fans tonight , several didn't ever bother to hide it and openly displayed colours.
When I heard the team my heart sank, but MS has got all the squad playing with confidence and they all seem to know their jobs and responsibilities. Mightily impressed. Players are moving into space to receive the ball, and they are keeping it moving. Huddlestone is a revelation since MS came in, I really like the look of him and Evandro together, these two can me a creative partnership. Naisse I really like, as said a bit ungainly but from what I have seen a far better player that the Toffees have been saying. Both Meyler and Tymon had very good games, both used the ball well, and Tymons run into the box in the first half was a delightful bit of skill. Bowen also look quick, assure on the ball. Have to say at the start of the evening I never expected a performance like that.
really impressed with Meyler the last few games, I think MS has sat him down and convinced him he's a footballer( long may it rein)
Thank God we get some good posts on here once the bad boys have passed out! Maloney has looked good to me in the little I've been able to see of him. Brilliant performance by ALL the lads today, from what I've read and from my son who watched it on BEIN. I don't have that channel, dammit!
He didn't have a chance of saving it. He had to shift his weight towards the near post to cover the area not blocked by defenders. It was then poked between Maguire's legs from 7 yards out. He had a great game, brilliant save from Ibra and great sweeping up at the back.
