The good old days or they were at the time Having said that I would not have took the juniors in those days.
Without starting another Marshall bating what was he doing on their goal? It was 3 yards near him and he sat on his arse. Fair enough he kept us in it with a fine save.
He wouldn't as it was just par for the course back then. The main problem was all the verminous Hull Reds latching on. Look at photos and the Man Utd fans were mainly skinny little kids in ludicrous clothing. Later hooligans were man mountains in comparison.
Move of the North Stand singing section didn't help, huge numbers of United fans both official and unofficial. Plenty round me in East, didn't know their way around, didn't know the city chants, some locals with binoculars watching the white shirts ffs. I'd say a quarter of the 16800 attendance were there for United. Maloney, when fit, is a better player than Snoddy in many ways in his positioning, passing and kicking. The key is avoiding injury!
It was a numbers game, they always had a huge numerical advantage over smaller, provincial clubs. East Hull Reds were certainly vermin, I went to school with a lot of them.
There were over 200 ejected and 100 arrested at one Sunderland game. There were that many ejected at games in 1970, 1971 on a regular basis. I was often amongst them, A regular bit of fun was to go down to court on a Monday morning as they were straight in court then and have a laugh at the proceedings. Sometimes it led to everyone having a drink and others it led to further mayhem.
Which Sunderland game was that? I went to them all in the 70s. The 77 one was one of the liveliest, some ejected, a dozen or so in court. But they were generally speaking much less rowdy then Man U. Like a drink and a sing mostly.
Phil Neville: "I've seen most of the teams in the bottom half play in the last month and none of them have produced a performance anywhere near this (Hull's) tonight. They had more of the chances, controlled a lot of the game and every time they went forward, they looked like a goal threat. They were absolutely fantastic tonight." His post-match comments for those moaning about the lack of praise. ^^^
City man / Castro Are both as old as me ? I will see if i can spot you both in your docs at future games.
Did anyone notice how many of our players ran directly at their goal with the ball at their feet tonight? Niasse Maloney Bowen Maguire Tymon Probably others I can't remember. How many of our players did that under Bruce and Phelan?
