We had one good shot from far and the keeper fumbled it and we nearly scored. We need more good shooters. We can't pass and pass through 2 walls of 4.
We've won 100% of our matches in the last 7 years when Lucas has scored. Why did we not play him last night? #kloppout
Well was disappointing. At least we created chances yesterday. Sturridge is clearly short on confidence, a year ago he puts away both those chances from inside 6 yard box. Keeper got lucky with the save as well. We were always likely to get caught on the counter in last 10 mins so not disappointed about conceding, just one of those things being caught at the back. Hard to really say where we went wrong. Dominated game bar 2 moments when Redmond got down the right, created couple of decent chances, should have had a pen for handball. Struggled against teams sitting back with 10 behind the ball but we just needed to be more clinical and easily won that game.
And just to say, how good is TAA's delivery from our wide. Put in 2 or 3 brilliant crosses again last night, just no one got into the box to actually try get on end of it!
My take on it is that there is not enough variation to our play. When things go right like they did at the start of the season, fine. But when things are not working, like last night, then we need to change things. In good time and not at the end of the match. Change of personnel, change of system may be. I have no problem with playing the long ball if that's what's required. When teams and managers are working out how to counter our system, we can't just do nothing and carry on. Otherwise we will have a string of draws at home to teams coming to defend for 94 minutes. Can you blame them for playing for a sure point when the alternative is a defeat and worsening GD?
IMO a) sothampton should have won it in the first half. they missed 3 absolute sitters TBF b) ward prouse went off and the game opened up. c) all of our big changes IMo came from our right side. Kudos to TAA. lets not forget the little kid did well here. d) we should have scored after southampton let us off the hook but missed IMO 3 really good chances and paid for it. there's no excuse in that. e) I was really doing a roy watching milner take corners. every time two hands up, every time lofted with zero pace at near stick. thats bull **** IMO. Coutinho took corners earlier in year and showed a new technique in his game to whip them in. he took none. have we FORGOTTEN what we played like before christmas???
What made us so good before is our attackers and midfield would press and win the ball and then break. Opponents are gifting us the ball now because they know we can't create. Getting a real playmaker in the middle is crucial - we have to get someone like Dahoud and Paredes. And we need full backs who can attack - Milner provides nothing down the left, and Clyne is so limited down the right.
Yes I noticed this too. Pressing is Klopps signatures. Press the opponent, catch them with their pants down. Score goals. Hard to do when you have the ball 85% of the time. Southampton were comfortable not having the ball and we are not creative enough with it. We need to find a way to open up defenses when we have majority of possession. Any team in the PL can sit back and shut us out. Christ, even Plymouth could do it at Anfield.
The thing is - with Firmino Coutinho Mane - we were able to break down some stubborn defences. I knew Mane would be a big miss but our attack is toothless at the moment.
Frightening just how reliant on one player your side obviously is. Without Mane you lack pace and penetration and the entire side looks bereft of ideas in the final third. I think also, sides have figured you out, You're incredibly easy to get at on the counter, as Soton proved again last night.
n othe issie for me lads is BOTH henderson and can went forward at the same time and then neither could get back. henderson looks bascially toast. he was half paced trying to get back and IMO thats the midfield done. We had henderson full fit patrolling deeper with lallana and wijnaldum doing said pressing. we played can last night and lallana at LW for most of the game. Task one is get the midfield right. forget anything else up top but get that right today, not in 3 weeks time. TODAY. Really simple. instruct henderson to not ever get head of the ball and so not have to chase back when he can't. getthe other two in their proper box to box positions. Oh and fecking put coutinho LW where he belongs. for that matter wither don't play firmino or play him CF. nowhere else. rotate in origi, sturridge oj or whoever at RW and tell them you play there or you don't start and if you don't like it theres the door.
yes but we've also mixed up the whole team making the problems worse. As i said the counter is down to the entire midfield running forward leaving the two cbs to do all the passing and tackling. can and Henderson were brainless really. As for figured out..... theres a consistent trend from august of sides doing the same thing but we are doing different things now which are probably aiding them not making it harder for them.
I don't fully agree mate, as last night most of Sotons breaks came down their left flank, all they seemingly had to do was work the ball wide and Redmond was in at your back 4, as your young full back was isolated and had no assistance, that isn't solely down to the midfield pairing, it's about the set up and shape of the side. The way he has you playing currently is without genuine width aside from the full backs, when they push on, you seemingly can be got at very easily if the ball is turned over.
That's fair enough. I think what you get (or should get but from the sounds of things, people think hes injured and running as much) is that Hendo provides the energy to cover the full field in that defensive role and is slightly quicker than can. Sounds like he was indisciplined yesterday but generally this year i think he has been quite disciplined. The front 4 then go and press the opposition leaving the box to box cm and dedicated dm to mop up. I actually think Can is decent defensively, he's strong and is good at tackling. He isn't quite as fast as Hendo and he doesn't have as much energy. What i think he really lacks is discipline. Totally agree with you though, you cannot play both can and hendo. 2 uncreative players against a team who defend is not a good tactic. Play them in the big games to dominate the midfield is fine. Not against teams who are looking to defend.
stouridge had two chances that on another day would have both gone in and then liverpool would have won 2-0 the southampton goal was down to liverpool throwing too many men up front, but now we all vote for southampton against the manx 1-0
As has been posted a number of times recently can we just go back to our starting 11 from earlier this season with a replacement for Mane from Ojo , Origi , Sturridge even Lucas for all i care but not Lala not Firminho etc.
well thats one aspect yes but moving lallana from RCM to LW doesn't help that and it left the kid on his own and twice he gambled wrongly closing down and got skinned. You are right that all they needed do was move wide BECAUSE LFC insisted on playing coutinho deep central where 3 cms had him covered moving lallana wide left where he did nothing AND then having both remaining CMs basically trot forward and never get goal side. contrast to the games v utd recently where we held more shape respecting the opponent and we did better. Firmino was completely disinterested in working that right wing too. people fawn over firmino but he does'nt knuckle down to the task asked of him at times and especially not when asked to go right or left. The point is if everyone piles forward they all are still central and head of the ball so its incredibly easy to break past. all we needed was once CM to sit and take that ball of lovren and get it moving. we needed lallana deep playing the ball quickly and we didn't have that either. Its that simple. As i said henderson looks toast. he was really one paced jogging back, he looked like he'd no sprint in him. Can just went off anywhere he felt like and so if theres no real shape there's bound to be massive gaps. all I've said is if we want to push full backs on we have to fill in. they can't all go and what the game ended up with was a tied 18 year old who provided 905 of anything good for LFC having to hang back cos the rest piled on. The issue you allude to of lack of width is really IMO an abdication of repsonsibility. Coutinh oplaying CM not LW is bizarre to me and lallana ending up there is nuts. Firmino did anyhting bar get out there. If you watched us you would see every time either full back got it... nobody had started to move wide at all. I could pick out 20 times i would see a can or henderson aimlessly side shuffling but i'd see forward to firmino or sturridge or coutinho and not one of them would move out wide to draw a man out of the middle and maybe even offer that full back a ball up the line. It really is basic running to make space and passes for your teammate stuff. Its not just cos mane is out Its cos they have lost their heads and shape. It reminds me of how last year baines and coleman were exposed and frankly martinez couldn't knock heads together but klopp better start immediately
I think Can is overated by reds. I don't think he's all that at all. I watch him and don't see a midfield player of any note, I've no idea what his best position is, but it's not central midfield as he's not got the legs imo.
