They may question it when they hear reports of someone in your area running down the street yelling que sera sera at 11pm.

I never feel guilty about calling in sick. Life's too short .

Not if you're genuinely sick, no. But I don't get sick pay so generally have to be in hospital to call in sick.

Regarding not getting sick pay: If you have a good job you lose more money by not going to work, but you're well paid so you can afford it. If you have a bad job, you're not losing so much money by taking the day off, so you can also afford a day off. That's my philosophy.

I've always lived by the philosophy that if I'm too ill to work, then I'm too ill to play. If I call in sick, and I don't go into work, then there's no going out in the evening either, no watching Saints in the pub, no posting on facebook or not606, no playing computer games, etc. Nothing more than naff daytime telly on the sofa under a duvet and an early night come the evening.

The tough calls aren't when you're genuinely sick; it's when you're 70%, when you probably could do a day of work, but you wouldn't be at your best and may not feel much better at the end of the day. Sometimes you can just ride it out a day or two, sometimes a day or two off will get you back to your best. I find my philosophy helps in determining whether or not I call in sick.

I get sick pay, but I am one of a team of 4. I'm home based in Bmth, the other 3 work and live in Plymouth and have an office they have to go to. We all do the same job, though I am the only one on a home working contract (a bone of contention, but the company shut the Bmth office down). They give me the guilt that my commute is only 10 seconds, so should be able to work....

The benefit of being a homeworker. I will still be ill tomorrow, but work as I am not risking giving everyone in the office my cold/temperature. So today I am at about 50%, tomorrow about 70%, but will work.

EDIT: To get back on topic, I am nervous for tonight, so the only thing perking me up is this forum.

In the Daily Mail, I note that Puel has beaten Liverpool with Lyon in the Champions' League. The most interesting part was that apparently players confronted Puel on the touchline before a league match about the high injury levels in the team produced by a tough preseason including alpine skiing. Some teams would worry about that, but sounds perfect for Saints as we have previously tried to set fire to our team and allowed them to bash each other with wooden clubs (disguised as ice hockey sticks). I expect to see Alpine Skiing in preseason. :)

I am comforted by the fact that that Pool have to score 3 goals before they are unaffected by one of ours going in off someone's backside. The clean sheet at ours could be priceless. Imagine the squeaky bum time, if they are 2-0 up and we nick a goal in the 80th minute. Doesn't bear thinking about.

I'll go 0-0 then. You still wouldn't score.

I have a good job but a child at nursery and 2 Alfa Romeos so can't afford it!
My clients and team members depend on me so would never pull a sickie.
Also I have had several v/d bugs due to colleagues coming in sick when they shouldn't, which is one of the reasons I hate the fact that we don't get sick pay. So if I'm sick then I come in, more people are sick and the business loses money.
Not having any sick pay is a terrible employment policy.
