Either side of my national service I worked in a cigarette factory and as a blacksmith; I eventually discovered my love for music while serving my country
My biggest hit sold over one million copies and stayed in the UK chart for over a year; I once performed at the Eurovision Song Contest but not as a competitor
I married my child sweetheart and had two children; I passed away in my mid 80s at a hospital in my home county

I was born in the Indian subcontinent during the mid 1930s; I studied English at Oxford and later served with the British Army in the Far East
It was during my time in the Far East that I first ventured into radio, as a newscaster; on my return to England I took up acting with the Royal Shakespeare Company
