A quick football quiz.

Deacy was late 70s early 80s wasn't he? Did he play for Wales when with us? I can't remember much about him bar his v sign to Kempton.

 

At a guess, yes. I could be wrong, but I think Mike England was earlier than that. I'm down to thinking of players called Evans, Jones or Roberts.

 

He did not play the full game for Wales and made his England debut 4 years later.

 

That seems to have put the kibosh on that train of thought then.

 

Just had Tony Norman cone to mind, played in the 80s must have been in an England Squad??

I can't think of the Welsh connection, but I'm struggling now, so I'll chuck in Curtis Woodhouse in case there's some boxing link and John Welsh out of pure desperation.

I have no idea, I've gone through the list the older players I can think of, and I don't think any were Welsh or Internationals, so I need clues.

 

He was born in South Shields so not eligible to play for Wales.

 

Martin Spendriff?

 

He played a few games for Arsenal.

 

Wasn't Mortenson from up that way?

Bingo! I last saw him play for Lancaster City when I worked there in the early 60's. He came out of retirement to play for them.

The incident happened in the war years when he also guested for Arsenal. A Welsh player was injured and they had no reserve so Mortensen came on. England won the match 8-3.
Still the only player to have scored 3 in an FA Cup Final.
