Konta beats Makarova 6-1 6-4 to reach quarter finals in Australian Open. Doing very well....good to have a decent player to watch in the women's game.
Going into the qf against the great Serena, Konta has at least one advantage that could see her in the semis, and being the much younger player that would be her mobilty around the court. Never seen Konta play so can't comment on other aspects of her game.
I feel someone totally unexpected is going to win the Mens' Singles title. It would surprise me greatly if Federer managed to outlast Raonic over 4 or 5 sets. The same with Nadal. Ket's hope it is someone new on the rostrum. As for the ladies, if Serena can dominate with her weight of shot she has a chance but I suspect someone who is more nimble and mobile will put her out.
Looking at the men's draw I hope Raonic plays Dimitrov in the final. Failing that one of the Under 30s wins it!!
Just seen Chase Carey (Formula 1) interviewed after taking over from Ecclestone. Not sure how a grown man can think a curled up moustache is a good look.....only suitable for twirling in a Victorian melodrama. Cannot remember anything he said as it was so mesmerising...it may be an alien life form.
One of the Swiss will be in the final. Raonic Fran, It would be a sign that the next generation are ready to take over.
I did a 'Yeeessss' to this news, which, considering I'm not remotely interested in the sport anymore amazed even me.
Because there's a chance you'll get interested and it will get interesting now. Plus Bernie is a prick and we've enough of those in high places right now!
From the noises he's been making he wants to try and make it more competitive and reduce the gap between top and bottom. Also wants rid of 'artificial racing' such as drs. Sounds good to me but the proof (as ever) will be in the pudding. I'm interested to see what impact the rule changes make this season.
