Over the years he has undoubtedly been a Marmite player with people either loving him or hating him, with many (including myself) writing him off as being passed his best etc etc. However, the stats speak for themselves, and he has been unbelievably consistent throughout his career breaking goal scoring records for both for club and country.. Hats of to you Mr Rooney..You will go down in history as one of the greats..
I respect him as a player I just think he peaked very early and has never reached that level again, his stats may suggest different I've not looked. What I'm referring to is his sheer appetite for the game, when Man Utd would come to the sol it was always his intensity that stood out everything was 100% with him he was a beast. That seems to have faded now but he has been about for around 16 Year now? In the last few overs of a good Innings.
A lot of that has to do with Moyes/LVG's systems that they implemented here, especially when he was shoehorned into a CM role, he won't ever be a Scholes, even if he can ping a 60 yarder on to a 5p coin, he's not a midfielder, he's a number 10. Fergie played to his strengths, and got the best from him. Jose could do that, but he has to be mindful that he should be building the team around players such as Pogba now, and Rashford and Martial, and play to their strengths not Rooney's. A few pro's have said he'll be truly appreciated for what he did after his retirement, so let the dividing opinions continue I say, he's not done yet, we can all admire his work once it's complete, but it's nice that not just United fans are acknowledging his achievements and recent records.
Would love him to come and play for us for the next 4 months.. Always came across as an arrogant **** when he was younger but comes across as a decent lad now and a proper family lad..
He has to go down as one of the best of my generation, there's no denying that. Just a shame he didn't really do it in tournaments, but you could say the same about most English players in that respect. He's up there with Scholes, lampard and Gerrard for me.
If I spent my life getting revenge on everyone that has pissed me off over the years and carried that grudge then I'd probably be on a 4 life term stretch now.. Live and let live I say, the internet whingers are the worst now anyway.. Like I said, I love him with us till the summer..
I honestly think the opposite is true and I admit to being guilty of it myself.. He in my opinion gets written off and gets undue stick regarding whether he merits his place in the team for both club and country. Then you look at his record and it is consistent and unbelievably good, so i have to conclude that he actually deserves more respect as a player than he tends to get..
I'm on about the media constantly ****ing off over it. Both radio 5 & Talkshite wont shut up about it.
I have stopped listening to TalkSport radio because I found myself getting angry listening to the utterly useless **** stains who they have presenting the shows.
His footballing career has run its course and who can blame him if he takes a big money move to US or China. On the other hand he still appears to be wanting to carry on for England and feels he has something to offer here. Might be done at ManU but a lower English club would certainly benefit from his huge experience, so why not us for a season or two. One of Moyes's old boys as well.
I can give you 250,000 reasons why it won't be Sunderland. He's been sharp in the 10 position since around November time, so I'm reluctant to say his days are numbered. Griezmann could end his days here. Then he could go to PSG or MLS. He's said he won't go to China.
The lad has taken some really hurtful and abusive criticism over the years and he will be one of the England greats in years to come. Many people will say in 5-10 years time, do you remember Wayne Rooney. The lad is class, end of!!!
What were you guys doing in 2001? That's when he emerged onto the big stage. Since 2001 I could write an essay on what I've been through and done, highs and lows. 15+ years of life. Meanwhile Rooney has played at the top level of football consistently that whole time, delivering the goods for my club on a weekly basis. He's won everything for my club. Still only 31. What is done is done, he has to find something new to drive him on now.
Not another Rooney thread - we only had one a few days ago He's not done too bad - for a scouser... please log in to view this image
His quality, for me has never been in doubt, he's a supremely talented footballer who has an incredible footballing brain, which is pretty uncommon. That said I feel like, at times, his quality hasn't always translated to effectiveness. That's just my thoughts on it. I doubt he'll give too much of a **** while he sits their counting his money. I feel like the England team let him down for years at his peak. The fact he didn't win anything or even really come close is a massive shame. Having said all of that I do find him to be a massive knob on a personal level. That could just be his bindipper accent though.
