He's looked around on the internet a bit and found some reports. Like the time he categorically told me that Phantom Menace didn't receive any 5 star reviews and it was universally hated at the time it was released. Until he realised he was aged 5 at the time, and the internet was barely used at the time, and he living on completely the other side of the planet to me, but then he still searched the internet for reviews from the time and found some 5 stars himself anyway. Still, he knows best.
Not sure the relevance of that to what I said. I said he's recognised as one of our best, whether or not hundreds of thousands of people read the articles.
Speaking of actually, this was a great read. https://www.balls.ie/football/harry-maguire-favourite-player-to-watch-357316
It's not the arguments that get me. He has this incredible skill of taking what someone says and then changing it in his head to mean something completely different, deciding that was what was intended and then coming back to argue against a point that wasn't made in the first place. It's impressive, it really is. And then when he said 'don't put words in my mouth'....
That is a great read. I really think it's true, as they've suggested, that having a boring English sounding name and coming from Sheff United rather than Dortmund subconsciously makes fans rate him less. We saw it with James Chester too. Friends who support other clubs used to say to me that Chester was one we needed to move on if we wanted to become established in the PL. What they actually meant was that they'd not heard of him and therefore he was average. A bit like how anything French/Italian is automatically sophisticated and classy.
Right. Because people don't generally think every foreign player is **** and every English player is world class.
And I'll tell you what's even more incredible, the fact that many of our fans, who have watched him play since he signed, didn't even rate him until the national pundits started to sit up and take note recently.
I was late in jumping on the Harry bandwagon. I thought he has a lot to learn and that he needs to eliminate the mistakes from his game. Hopefully he will as he gains more experience. He has had two cracking games vs two very good teams, which has highlighted his potential, that's all. I'm still not getting carried away though, unlike some pundits who have pretty much said they only noticed him in the last two games.
He's shown similar every single time he's played. Mistakes here and there, yes, but his quality and potential has never been in doubt IMO.
I think he's actually looked better in the Premier League than he did in the Championship, he's done far better than I thought he would.
To my mind, he's at least as a good a prospect as Robertson, probably better, and no-one would think £5m a good deal for him. Yes, he's slow and he does have a tendency to grapple with people who turn him. Yes, he is liable to the odd impetuous mistake a la Bournemouth. But on balance I think the fact we see him all of the time makes us pick out his faults more than we do talents at other clubs, where we only see the highlights or see the odd game on Sky or vs City. What other young English centre half is out there, with the amount of games behind him that Maguire has, aside from Stones? Enjoy him while he's here, cos he won't be going back down to the Championship
Robertson has played hell of a lot more games for us than Harry? I think over treble the starts Harry has had and more than double the games. Harry is flavour of the month at the moment and Robertson isn't. Personally I think Robertson is better and has more potential. He just isn't new and shiny to us like Harry. They both signed on the same day and robbo is younger. To me if Harry had played he same or anywhere near the same number of games as robbo then we could compare? I think Harry has been great recently but we are getting carried away.
Alsatians are excellent dogs, obedient and useful. However I feel they are never 100% trustworthy because they have something in their breeding which can emerge unexpectedly. HM is from Bramall Lane and in some ways I see him as similarly tainted.
I thought for a second you were describing someone else on this forum, but then realized you didn't mention 'excessive expletives'.
