What an incredible story. I knew Pulis is banned from Gillingham's ground even to this day by Scally, but I had no idea this was the cause of it all.

Pulis' greed appears to be his Achilles heel. Mind you, Parish is not a Chairman to screw with, as Ian Dowie can attest.

Former academy member Souliymane Coulibaly (sp?) has left Kilmarnock and joined Egyptian team Al Ahly. Just struck me how we sometimes look at a young prospect and think 'he's got what it takes' but then the player ends up falling so so short of the mark it's actually quite scary. A bit like Baby Bale. Is it really possible for a player to be at a club as big and as capable as ours until they're already in their 20's and then fall off the charts within mere months of leaving? Were we really investing time and plentiful effort/money in players who would walk out of our door through the doors of a club a dozen divisions removed from the PL standard they were apparently being prepped for? Or do attitude and application count for much more than I am assuming?

Just got me a-thinking. Would love to see a well-produced documentary about the inner workings of a top academy.

There's some weird ones like that. For example at the time where Ledders stepped up from the academy I remember reading comments about a couple of other prospects who could step up, Alton Thelwell and Owen Price - yet neither player did.

Thelwell got a few appearances for us in the 2000-1 season, but a spate of injuries saw him not play for three years and when he did resurface it was in League One, first as a bit part player at Hull before finally getting his first run of games in over half a decade at Orient between 2006-9, before dropping into non-league football and eventually retiring.

As for Owen Price, he never played for us and bounced around the nether regions of football, playing in Sweden for GIF Sundsvall, Finland for Turun Palloseura, back to Sweden to play for second-tier Ljungskile SK, then wound up at Northwich Victoria and FC Farnborough.

 

Attitude Is More Important Than Ability .

 

Cheers OS.....didn't and still do not rate Sherwood as a manager or a pundit (though I rated him as a good player throughout his career) but think that is a very true statement in all walks of life.
