Telling you ... he comes on here giving it the old billy big bollocks pub is basically a crack den ... reality is it's probably a lovely semi-country boozer and he's happily in love with the unit bringing her flowers and chocolate treats home with him from the job he gets so much fulfilment from every evening

It's not the same thing. They hardly had computers when I went to university.

Anyway. Off today, tomorrow and Weds. Birthday tomorrow. Went to the quack this morning. Wasn't happy how those bites were healing. Came out waiting to hear about appointments with a vascular specialist and an orthopaedic surgeon for knee replacements. Happy birthday indeed <grr>

I know this will backfire on me and make me feel so old, but when I got my first job at The Prudential Insurance Company in 1980 we had to dictate onto an acetate record about the size of a vinyl single using a microphone. It was not until the mid eighties they brought in revolutionary new equipment.....a cassette recorder system

Its funny speaking to some of people at our work that have been here 20+ years and how they worked without computers etc. Just unthinkable, everything I do would need a computer for these days, would be impossible to do or without.

I started work out of uni 19 years ago. I was given an old pentium pc that was far too slow to run CAD and had to get on with it for over a year. I didn't see the world before widespread pcs in work i must admit. I'm sure had i been 3/4 years earlier I would have seen the olden days :)

however the reality is even though we didnt see that part we did see the pre smart phone work and the joys of the first wap enabled phones. I dind't even bother if i'm honest. apple and blackberry certainly drove a revolution there.

At this point I doubt you could even consider running any business above the level of a cash in hand handiman or window cleaner without a PC. We ave a guy who is a mechanic in the family and he had to get a set up cos he needed to charge of cards and not let guys leave his houe after doing work cos they would then forget the payment later.

I couldn't see even in the more traditional world of agriculture or even a corner shop how you could manage. I'm sure old folks do but nobody starting out or doing it properly to make a living should be able to.
