So what makes a big club? Seroous question, and to show how unbiased i am. I consider Man Utd 1st. Liverpool 2nd. Im going on history, titles won, support world wide, often discussed etc.
Much as you say. Silverware, History, fanbase etc ££££ and Chavski have some silverware but lack History and fanbase
I'd throw Arsenal in there, as well. That's the three truly massive clubs that this country has. Everybody else is just fighting to be the best of the rest.
I think supporters world wide is irrelevant personally cos it can and does change. Leicesters world wide support jumped hugely last season! Trophies won in recent years, historic trophies, general history, great players remembered by all are more important in my opinion. The biggest are (taking all those into account); 1) united 2) Liverpool 3) Arsenal 4) Chelsea 5) city 6) Everton 7) Spurs Edited the list cos ( being a dumbass I forgot about city) 1-3 are obvious in my opinion Chelsea are 4th due to the last 12 years. Everton are above spurs due to the 1980s titles and winning the fa cup since spurs last did it. All 6 are the only ever presents in the Premier league too. It could be argued that Blackburn and Leicester should be above Spurs Everton and Liverpool cos they have both won the PL title. Villa, Sheff Wednesday, Leeds, Forest and Blackburn were all big clubs but due to spending years in with the Championship and or League One I have left them out. Edit...Sunderland and Newcastle added in to this list
If you are wanting to talk about history and historic trophies, like you mentioned. Then Sunderland have to be up there. 6 league titles, not many teams have won it more than us. 2 FA Cups, as well. We aren't one of the big boys, but we should certainly be put in the same bracket as clubs like Leeds, Forest and Villa.
I thought about Sunderland and Newcastle but left you both out cos of how long it has been since you won tropies but actually sfter reading your post I think you are right and you should both be in with Forest and Villa etc...so have changed my post !
Mainly history and being one of the 6 clubs to have always be in the prem. We've only won 2 titles but until the Premier League era we were the record FA cup winners with 8...we've won 4 league cups and 3 european trophies. Chelsea only over took our total of 17 trophy wins in 2015. History wise we havd a few firsts... First & only non league club to win fa cup First club in 20th century to win the double First British club to win a European Trophy And in the last 11 years our league finishes have been 5th, 5th, 10th, 8th, 4th, 5th, 4th, 5th, 6th, 5th, 3rd and we are doing ok this season (so far!) But I know others could make similar cases for their own teams to be above us
Sorry for the mini hijack comm. Next question, related to this thread, though. Going on big clubs alone. Who would make up the Premier league? Man Utd Liverpool Arsenal Chelsea Spurs Everton Villa Leeds Man City Forest Sunderland Wolves I've got 12 before hitting a brick wall. Out of the remaining 8, I have about 20 clubs fighting for them places.
