Please don't apologise - for various reasons I have only slept about 6 hours in the last week and am running on pills so am not entirely sure what I am posting anyway - good news is that a nasty virus that hit me and emptied me dry and caused my entire body to "bloat" with an itchy allergic reaction seems to have gone so I am hoping soon to come back down to Earth - too much information ??? Probably

Poor you, that is not good I hope you are on the mend soon Leo!

I am having a chemical clearout for a hospital appointment tomorrow, so I cannot risk going out the front door just in case I get an urge and there ain't no stopping it when it comes:(

Apart from suffering from something similar to Leo, though not as bad, life is good. The weather is glorious - bright sunny winter days, with lots of snow on the mountains so I will probably go ski-ing at the weekend. Our house got assessed by the Earthquake Commission people so, hopefully, we will soon get a cheque to pay for the repairs, though finding someone to do it will be interesting. Apparently, all the spare scaffolding in Austalasia in now in Christchurch and there is still not enough.

Life is very quiet and boring here - no fires, no riots and no football. I have heard somewhere that there is some sort of competition happening here in a couple of months time; something to do with black, I believe.

Certainly one or two grains there, ofh, although it entirely depends on your 'social circle' whether or not you encounter any as described in the article. Personally, I always applied the 'once bitten, twice shy principle' before accepting a bbq invitation - having attended a few along the lines of 'the fire was lit using petrol' or 'the dog did the cooking', I soon learnt!

Taking your Esky is certainly de rigueur, but I've never been to a barbie where you empty it into the hosts fridge - that's a very typical pommie party habit IMO  It's truly amazing how long a bag of ice cubes can keep beer/food cold for in an Esky - much better than a fridge.

I've never been to one in a garage either. Most houses have gazebos out the back that supply plenty of shade - failing that, or in the event of rain, you can always move under the house as most are built on stilts and the area under the house is very useful. Under ours, we had a rumpus area for the kids or rainy day barbies, a games room for pool/table tennis/bar, a laundry area and a large aviary for my finches, lorikeets & budgies.

    Starting to feel homesick :(

Leo, I'm feeling for you. I hope you get back fit soon.

We start the trek home tomorrow - we've missed loads, but somehow I hope everything is back to normal.
