Copied this from a finance report... The chief executive pointed out that since Stan Kroenke became Arsenal’s majority shareholder, the club had actually invested around £350 million in transfer fees, including the likes of Mesut Özil and Alexis Sánchez. This is true, though fails to mention that around £160 million was recouped in the same period from player sales – and that all this expenditure was funded by the football club and not the owner. That said, the question is whether they could have done even more. The frequent criticism of the club’s innate conservatism in the transfer market has evidently touched a nerve, as there have been a series of justifications from senior executives as to why the famous, hefty cash pile has not been fully utilised.
I'm far more happy with investment in the team over recent years, but as you say that's about the club rather than owner. I also think we could have done more at times, particularly when we only signed Cech.
No disrespect but isn't that just admitting a lack of belief in your manager? It's almost as if you're giving Wenger more and more breathing space so that if you aren't successful in the meantime you can say "ahhh after x, y, z we weren't expecting to see the success until a decade after".
It goes back to the point I was making. Kroenke is a hard nosed, cynical investor. The club has subsidised most of the spending, as the article points out. He's there to maximise his return on investment.
No I think the time to start seeing the benefits of the choices around the stadium started 3 seasons ago when we signed Ozil. By looking back after a decade I meant we will have a better idea of whether we entered a period of proper success or not. As currently we seem to be on the cusp of proper success and it could turn into more success or fall back to our stagnant position from before.
Don't Soton fans hate Portsmouth? Can't say I've ever met a Saints fan who gave a flying **** about Arsenal.
I think Saintsfan is run by one of Hiag's two kids, aged 6, 10, and 14. By the way he posts I am guessing it is the 6 year old
I think he left the 6 year old back at the service station when he had the imaginary accident........
After the utter whooping your ass took for the entirety of yesterday, I am surprised that you have the brass neck to show up, today!
I never really delved into that transfer, but wasn't the contract release fee anything that excessed 40m? Why would an offer of 40m + £1 be embarrassing if that was the case? (I imagine it wasn't the case)
Because it was stupid. Adding the extra pound Still think Liverpool's chairman should have been hammered for that breach of contract though.
Whooping? The only guy that gets ripped to shred on this site is you #bottler a truly shameless man that you are it seems
Dress it up how you like, Flanders, but you had a pack of us dry-humping you for most of yesterday. I bet you're still bandy-legged even now! I'm right, aren't I?
