I never said i think it'll happen, but i do say it's not unrealistic. His signing on fee would eliminate the shortfall in wages, and maybe he will fancy Spain, as a Spanish speaker, maybe he won't get another chance at Champions League. I will say the Sevilla link has been here for months, and the press here aren't like England for speculation. I don't believe The Sun, but Marca is trusted.
Football isn't just about scoring goals. It's also about taking control over the other team and minimising the goals they can score. In the sacrifice of much stronger midfield play, we've had players like Nolan who occasionally score poacher goals. In all of the other time he isn't scoring, he's weakening the centre midfield play, which means we can't control the game for other players to score, and we can't control the game so the other team can't score. This problem is evident in the results of last season, because despite having the likes of Nolan, we just got an awful lot of draws, and got by on many single points from matches. We lost Carroll, but to be honest, we scored just as many points in the second half of the season without him, than we did with him in the side. We lost Nolan, but we've bagged ourselves a FAR better midfield partner for Tiote in Cabaye, who can probably net a few himself (he scored 13 in 32 in the 09-10 season with Lille, with 7 assists, so the ability is there somewhere), and we have new players stepping up who all have a keen eye for goal: S Taylor Ba A possible new striker Ben Arfa Marveaux Gosling Vuckic And so on. If we rotate through these players I'm confident we can bag far more goals than Nolan and Carroll ever did. Ba only needs to score 11 to make up for what Carroll gave us last season, and the likes of Ben Arfa and 4/5 other players need to bag 12 in total to make up for Nolan. All the while that's happening, the overall play of the team and the control in midfield is a LOT stronger. I have no idea what will happen for sure, but I'm confident we'll score more and concede less next season. We can retain more possession, and the CM play will be much better, which allows other players to step up with more goals which fill the voids of last season. Really, thinking we're better off than last season isn't that unrealistic, even for a mackem.
I think if you were to take a good 'objective' look at yourself, you would admit that the problem lies with you having an inferiority complex...If ever you want to talk about it, I will be more than willing to offer you some advice...
glad you think so mate like you say if ba "STAYS" fit he might get a few, the world beater ben arfa is coming back from a serious leg break and has only scored 27 goals in his career but you got him down to bag 5-10 in the hardest league in the world?? and obertan, marveux and cabaye could very well be flops!! i would be very worried if i was a newcastle fan..
O'Shea could flop Brown could flop Gardner could flop Sessegnon could flop Gyan could flop Vaughn could flop Larsson could flop Blah blah blah. Try and have a constructive conversation instead of just sounding like a mong with the same old rhetoric.
Haway Chappaz, no need for that, his opinion is very valid, they COULD flop. Why resort to name calling? Expect better from you marra.
Although unproven, cabaye is a player of the kind of class we have been crying out for. Every season is a worry, but the extent your going on it's like we have swapped every player we have and brought in championship players. All this talk of the Nolan sale. Let's see how many goals he scores at west ham this season in a lower league then we will talk again to see if selling him was a good idea.
He was ****ing woeful on Sunday mind, i think everyone knows my opinion of Nolan. ****e. Made the hat-trick 10x more painful for me.
Anyone could go off the boil or rise to the challenge. The point is though more of SAFCs buys have been there done that worn the tshirt etc. Whereas NUFC have gambled largely on unknown quantities in PL (a riskier gamble that could go either way, but potentially one with a better pay off (although unlikely)).
why would they suddenly flop because they signed for us??? they have been doing it in the prem for years you tit!!!
Different team, different tactics. They could quite easily be poor for you. Absolutely. It's the same reason a flop for another club could turn out decent somewhere else. It's just how it works. Damien duff is a classic example from a toon point of view. Class at chelsea and Blackburn. ****e for us.
i think his point is that every transfer is a risk, and we should know that just cos a player has been doing it in the premiership for years dont mean he gonna be good, Nicky Butt, Alan Smith, Mark Viduka and Michael Owen prove that!
but they have been playing in the premiership all there careers so a much greater chance of being a success no?
Yeah, the risk is smaller on them, agree on that but at the same time, as already mentioned above, we can point at 4 or 5 signings we have made that on paper should improve our team but didn't. no one knows until we see the teams settle.
