I've always rated Wenger. I'm the kind of guy who can overlook the odd downfall so long as you got some class about you as a man. Knowing my own temperament no doubt I will have thrown a few tantrums in my time thanks to Wenger...but i would know deep inside that it will be a dark day when the gaffer leaves.

...maybe winning the final rather than being successful on penalties?

Pre Claudio Ranieri we would have killed for Wenger ...as would the vast majority of clubs in the English leagues...not just for the titles and cups but also for the style of football.

    Curbishley ...not tainted. :)

Ranieri will be our manager longer than Mourinho will be at United ...if you'd like a tenner on it (to the winners named charity) just say ... :)

  7. Would Wenger have improved Spurs? I'm not sure.

Let's not forget something very, very important, here, folks. At Arsenal, Wenger may not have always had the greatest war chest to spend (compared with the other big clubs), but the club has certainly spend a King's ransom on wages to make sure players stay at the club. Would Wenger have done so well with our wage structure, and having to juggle the loss of our best players every two or three seasons, and our failure to land the players that we needed because we refused to pay the going rate in wages for such players?

I am extremely doubtful. He may have done better than some of our managers. Hell... an arthritic ant could have done better than Santini ffs! But I'm not sure that he would have done any better than either Jol or Redknapp.

What is absolutely certain in my mind is that he is not better than Poch - not now. He's long past his sell-by date, and I think he is genuinely holding back the Gunners.

Wenger had to deal with selling his best players and not being able to compete on wages for years, I think he would have fit right in at Spurs. Personally I think he would have done better than any of the managers you've had while he has been at Arsenal, though the jury is still out on poch, the next couple of years will give a better idea. Overall I think poch has been really good but did buckle under the pressure last season. You've had times when you look really good under him but also times when it's really dull like earlier in the season. Hit and miss with signings too but I suppose most managers are. He's definitely got your players to a higher level of fitness and effort. Think it'll take another season or two to see what he is really capable of.

That I agree with, I can't imagine Wenger to have had the impact Poch has had on our current team. Would he have brought the same players through etc etc. Poch's first 3 years align with Wenger's last 3 in a 20 year reign. I'm not sure if that same zest would have been there or indeed the necessity to unearth a young team...so I think a lot of the good stuff Poch is doing might not have been seen under Wenger if he was at Spurs currently. In his heyday when he had a team with a young Anelka in, back when he was bringing the kids through, if that Wenger was here today then I would see it differently.

Fancy a bet Fosse? Raineri will be sacked before the end of next season. I maintain that he's a likeable but bang average manager who oversaw the perfect storm last season. I lost money to you on a short term Vardy bet but in the long term I was right!

I'll have the same £10 charity bet with you Stan, if that's acceptable? I'm confident we'll do a lot better in the league next season than we have this and that Ranieri will still be in charge the season after that. For the avoidance of doubt, him leaving for any other reason is outside the scope.of the bet.

  14. That's a fancy way of admitting what I have continually stated - that last season was a freak.

I know it's very difficult for you to admit that I was right, Lightning, so I'm not going to say any more than that.

Leicester City lost 3 games in 38 last season ... and only once in the last 9 of the previous (to the Champions, Chelsea) that's 4 losses in 47 EPL games ... only one thing about your continuing bitter, sore loser, bleating that has an element of 'freak' to it ... the bleater <laugh>.

People keep going on about how good Pochettino is but if he doesn't win something within the next 2 seasons at Spurs then he can forget his dream move to a big club.

They've got an arguably world class defence, a world class finisher, an future world class attacking midfielder and a world class goalkeeper. It's all supplemented with good to great players who know their roles.

On paper it's the best team in the league and someone like Mourinho, Klopp, Wenger or Guardiola would piss the league and take it into the latter stages of the Champions League.

    No denying that.

But it's like the situation we had at Leicester.

Pearson built our side but it took a far greater manager to actually take it somewhere. I think the same could be said of Spurs.

Well done to Pochettino for building a great side but unless he starts to prove he can win things it's all a bit moot.
