Tiote’s volleyed equaliser against Arsenal in the corresponding fixture has racked up an incredible tally of over 300,000 views on Youtube in a goal that he admits will live with him forever.

Tiote’s season last year was something of revelation from a player who was so unfamiliar to life in the Premier League.

But looking ahead to the new campaign, Tiote says: “My first season was a good one for me but now I need to do even more and show I am an even better player.

“It won’t be easy to do that but the key, as always, is hard work.”

Now Tiote is hoping to bring his own organisational skills to the table without his old pal and former skipper Kevin Nolan alongside him.

And when asked if he’d fancied taking the armband from the Scouser this summer, he said: “I like to organise things but being captain in the future is something we have to see about. The first thing and the most important thing is to win the games.

“Being captain is not an easy job. Everybody has their own jobs to do and I must do mine.”

He doesn't need to play football to do that, he could just look at their players and they'd drop to the floor.

 

There isn't a man alive who wouldn't want to be Cheik Tiote.

Everything he says is just perfect, like when he publicly snubbed Chelsea and not once has he moaned about the way the club is run. He frequently praises the fans and shows willingness to improve his game (!!!!) whilst trying to motivate his teammates.

I honestly feel Newcastle have gotten under his skin and I'm delighted that despite clearly being a player who should be playing Champions League football he's decided to stay with us and sign a long contract.

I think if he stays with us for at least the duration of his contract he will go down as a Newcastle United legend.

Not yet for me. I'd want another couple of seasons like last year before giving him that 'label'.

 

If he got seriously injured and retired he may get that label, a la Tony Green. But he won't get injured

 

Yeah, by legend status I'm talking the likes of Shearer and Given. Real servants to the club!

I just worry that if he has an even better season its only a matter of time before someone bigger comes knocking, and no matter how good he is I just cant see MA turning down a 20m+ bid...

That's a bridge we'll have to cross when we get there.

Until then; let's just be happy that a player of his quality is at NUFC and enjoy watching his commitment to the team. Who knows. Things could change.
