Rovers have today signed QPR goalkeeper Joe Lumley on loan until the end of the season. The 22-year-old shot-stopper was released by Tottenham Hotspur in 2010 and moved to Loftus Road where he enjoyed loan spells with Bishop's Stortford, Accrington Stanley, Morecambe and Stevenage before returning to Rangers. He made his first team debut for the Loftus Road outfit in an FA Cup tie against Nottingham Forest in January last year and three days later made his Championship debut for the club in a 1-1 draw against Blackburn Rovers. Manager Darrell Clarke said of his new signing; "With Kelle Roos having been recalled by Derby County and Steve Mildenhall still missing through injury, it was important that we recruited another goalkeeper to provide both competition and cover for us. Joe is a talented young goalkeeper and I would like to welcome him to The Memorial Stadium and thank QPR for allowing him to join us and our own Board of Directors for agreeing to the deal." http://www.bristolrovers.co.uk/news...r-joe-lumley-3526273.aspx#POgHvKjVfrZ6rW4y.99
Hope DC is signing another CB and LB to play in front of him otherwise we will shipping goals like Puddy and Roos
His stats including cup games (covers a 3 year period) QPR League 1 Cup 1 Bishops Stortford League 4 Cup 0 Accrington League 5 Cup 1 Morecambe League 0 Cup 1 Stevenage League 0 Cup 0 Total appearances in 1st team football: 6 football league appearances 4 non league appearances 3 cup appearances Not the experienced keeper I was praying for. However, I will be right behind him. Just hope this dont go wrong because if it does, we are stuck with him and Puddy until Mildenhall is back and Mildenhall certainly aint the answer to our keeper situation.
Not a rumour. In the story on the OS a few posts above, DC said this.... "it was important that we recruited another goalkeeper to provide both competition and cover for us."
I'm just baffled by this signing but what experienced GK will come to us if their not guaranteed a first team spot DC is entirely to blame for our GK situation.
What I find weird is that its taken DC 18 days in this window to sign this keeper. Surely there is a keeper in our league or the league above in the championship who has lots of experience and is currently not 1st choice and may even be out of favour. This is the best that DC can find? Personally, if we were going for an inexperienced keeper then I rather have Matt Macey back. What he would have learnt at Arsenal from the likes of Cech would be worth more than the 13 games that Lumley has been involved in. Just my opinion though.
No I agree to . Don't get me wrong I don't mind that a GK is inexperienced when we have a solid defence but we don't and Lockyer and Brown have been poor this season IMO maybe all GK's out there have been watching videos of us and thought "fook that"
"neil etheridge at walsall is quality we had him on loan. splash some cash surely he rather be at us then Walsall" A post from Gaschat FFS Now fans attacking Walsall for not having Championships experience even though they were up there in the late 90s early 00s.
Keepers need to gain experience from somewhere. Mikkel Andersen didnt have much experience when he came to us. Fraser Forster didnt either. But personally, I rather have experience over youth in the keeper department because experience there breeds confidence in the defence. If we had a solid keeper already then I dont mind a young inexperienced keeper in on loan as back up. But we are shipping goals left right and centre and our keeper cant catch a cross and makes big mistakes and we are getting punished every time. An inexperienced keeper doesnt install confidence in the defence and certainly dont install confidence in the stands either. I just dont see how this deal took 18 days to complete!
18 days If he's hear for the rest of the season then its unlikely we will be getting in another GK in but that said I can't see this Joe kiddy staying until then. DC has ****ed up big time with GK situation I don't really rate Mildy that much but their is definitely more behind why he was dropped and I would rather he was in goal then anyone else we've had recently maybe Mildy stood up to DC he didn't like it just an opinion
Concerned that he could be back up to Will Puddy. Puddy doesn't fill me with any sort of confidence, every time the ball goes near him I think they are going to score. I was told by an unnamed person in the club that Parkes was considered responsible for most of the mistakes that led to us conceding goals last season and he was offered a contract here and turned it down so that's why I wouldn't want him back
Here is his 1 league appearance in the championship vs Blackburn. Look at the goal he concedes. Reminds me of Puddy!
Isn't Ian Holloway the manager at QPR now, maybe he feels that Rovers treated him unfairly and this is his revenge I was rather hoping the announcement was going to be a quality defender
If he is just for cover, I would rather let that be given to Hodges. Give our own player the chance to challenge Puddy and not someone elses keeper.
Never got why we signed youngsters from other clubs when we have our own might as well not have a youth seup
